Improvement is my biggest motivation, says Sundowns' Percy Tau

While Tau is enjoying his new role at Masandawana, he believes that he needs to contribute more goals

Mamelodi Sundowns recently secured progression into the knockout round of the Caf Champions League with victory over Ethiopia’s Kedus Giorgis.

Sundowns had to deal with several injuries towards the end of their hectic 2016/2017 Premier Soccer League season which affected their Champions League campaign. Most notably, Masandawana were without their talisman Khama Billiat, who missed most of the Champions League group stages, forcing Pitso Mosimane to employ Percy Tau as a false striker, in order to fill the void left by the Zimbabwean.

Although, Tau has impressed in his new-found role, his goals have dried up, but the 23-year-old is not resting on his laurels and remains determined to end his barren run when the team next face off against AS Vita Club on the weekend.

“I always look to play a better game than my last. Continuous improvement in my game is my biggest motivation,” Tau told The New Age.

“I was excited (when I was introduced to the new position). What I enjoy about it is that I get to play in the half spaces and between the lines. I’m still learning more about it but one of the skills needed is to see situations early,” Tau added.

“I also want to use that to contribute more goals to the team,” Tau concluded.
