Ibom Youths coach Itoro Akpan is dreaming of winning the Akwa Ibom’s Super Four title after Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Akwa United in Uyo.
The Nigerian National League side were destined to upstage Abdu Maikaba’s men when Nsikak Paulinus opened the scoring in the 25th minute at the Uyo Township Stadium.
However, the Promise Keepers fought back to escape defeat thanks to Boniface Matthew’s header off Ubong Friday’s cross in the 86th minute.
And the gaffer attributes their positive result against the Nigerian topflight side for his team’s resilience and quality.
“My players played to instructions all through the match to get a draw against Akwa United,” Akpan told Goal.
“We played well and laboured for the point we got. Ibom Youths may just be an unpopular side but everyone has seen what we can do.
“We have a young team and no team in the state can beat us. Akwa United beating us will not make news but the way it ended everyone was satisfied.
“The tournament is coming in a good time and will prepare all the teams for their various competitions. Our target in the tournament is to finish on top of the log.”
With the draw, Ibom Youths are third with one point after and will face rock-bottom Cofine FC, who lost 2-1 Akwa Starlets at the same venue on Thursday.
