‘I feel great’ – Seventh league strike delights MFM’s Odey

The South West derby was settled by the Olukoya Boys’ No. 31 and it made him feel delighted as he moves ahead of his closest rival

Stephen Odey says he feels ‘great’ after scoring his seventh Nigeria Professional Football League goal of the season to help MFM FC dispatch Remo Stars at the Agege Stadium on Sunday.

Odey scored the only goal of the game in the 16th minute after sending the Sky Blue Stars goalkeeper, David Walbe, the wrong direction from the spot.

His closest rival Victor Mbaoma left the pitch in the first half and thus, could not mount a challenge to the Olukoya Boys’ forward, who went one goal clear of him to sit atop the league goalscorer’s chart.

“I feel great scoring my seventh goal, for topping the goal’s chart I feel very excited,” Odey told Goal.

"Well, it was not how I wanted it but we thank God for the three points so I feel excited scoring the lone goal.''

Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side were not at their best and the striker feels that it has a lot to do with the connection between the South West neighbours.

“We did not play well due to the fact that it is a derby game. It is meant to happen like that. And I’m sure our next game will not be like this.

“They tried and again we’ve known each other and [playing against] a team where you’ve known each other, it will be very tough to play each other. And they played very well.''
