Adebayo Waheed is confident he can outperform Stephen Odey feats at MFM this season.

Waheed scored the winning goal as the Olukoya Boys handed Kwara United a 1-0 defeat in midweek’s Nigeria Professional Football League encounter at the Agege Stadium, thus, securing for the Lagos side their first win of the season.

And while being asked if he is ready to fill the void left by the FC Zurich man - who netted 18 league goals to lead Fidelis Ilechuwku’s side to second place finish and a Caf Champions League slot - the youngster says he 'can do more than’ the Nigeria international.

“There’s nothing special in scoring goal. It’s my duty to score them. The fans know Waheed Adebayo, so they should be patient MFM will not put them in shame. We are going to make them proud again,” Waheed told Goal .

“I can do more than Stephen Odey; I believe so. Stephen was a fantastic goalscorer for us and he was the team’s highest goalscorer last season but I believe we can do more than him and without him, I believe we can go far.

After opening his season account, Waheed has set himself a target of challenging Odey - who netted 18 in the 2016-17 NPFL season.

“I don’t really have a target but I will work towards and I’m very confident that I can challenge Stephen Odey,” he concluded.

The striker will be looking forward to walking his talk as MFM will be eyeing their first points away from home when they tackle El Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League clash.
