Kaizer Chiefs striker Gustavo Paez has revealed that it was difficult when he joined the team, having to compete with eight other strikers for a starting berth.

The Venezuelan forward joined Amakhosi last January after he impressed coach Steve Komphela, while on trial and he has since scored four goals in 14 matches in all competitions.

”It was difficult because there were eight or nine strikers when I got here. We were all fighting for a place in the starting 11,” Paez said on The Citizen.

“The coach believed in me when I got here… he signed me. I believe in him too," he continued.

Amakhosi are placed fourth on the league table, eight points behind the log leaders Bidvest Wits, with four matches left in the current 2016/17 campaign.

With the PSL title out of Chiefs' hands, Paez stated that it was important for them to focus on winning all of their remaining games and finish in a good position.

“We know it’s difficult now. We lost points in important games in last minutes," he stressed.

"Now we want to win the matches and continue collecting points maybe we can end in a good position,” Paez added.

“It’s going to be difficult. But we know the possibilities and we have to try,” he concluded.

Amakhosi will host Lamontville Golden Arrows in a PSL match at the FNB Stadium on Saturday. Kick-off is at 20h15.
