Gor Mahia and USM Alger are both tied on eight points in Group D after five rounds of matches

Gor Mahia’s delegation to Algeria is still stranded in Nairobi ahead of the Caf Confederation Cup return leg match against USM Alger on Wednesday.

Only 21 members of the travelling contingent managed to depart on Monday, with the remaining nine still waiting for tickets to make the trip.

On Friday, President Uhuru Kenyatta sponsored the team with 30 air tickets, but according to Gor Mahia's Organizing Secretary, Judith Nyangi, they have only received 21 tickets.

“Uhuru Kenyatta left five million with Statehouse comptroller for air tickets. We knew the prices have since gone up, that’s why we said that we don’t need the hard cash but the ticket.

“So far, we have received 21 tickets. There is not enough space on the next available flight, that's why the first group left. The rest of us are still parking (sic). We might travel or miss the trip altogether,” Nyangi said in a facebook post.

Gor Mahia, who lost their last match against Rayon Sports in Nairobi, will need a straight win against their hosts to be assured of a place in the quarters.

Gor Mahia and USM Alger are both tied on eight points in Group D after five rounds of matches in the competition. However, the Kenyan champions are sitting top owing to a better goal difference.

Rayon Sports of Rwanda are second on six points while Yanga are bottom with four. A win for the Rwandan side will take their tally of points to nine, a reason why Gor Mahia should win to reach 11 points.
