Terms of the deal between the Galaxy and the 27-year-old Venezuela international were not disclosed.
“Rolf is a talented outside back who has had success playing in top leagues in Europe and for the Venezuelan national team,” Galaxy head coach Sigi Schmid said in a statement. “We think highly of his soccer pedigree, his versatility and the skills he brings to our team. He will be another piece in building our back line. We are excited he is joining the LA Galaxy team.”
Feltscher was last with Cardiff City, having earned a short-term contract with the club after impressing on trial. However, he did not make an appearance for the Championship side, making a pair of benches during his stay there.
His contract was set to come to an end in January, freeing him up to join the Galaxy prior to the start of the 2018 MLS season.
Prior to Cardiff, the defender had spells in the second divisions of Spain, Germany and Italy, along with time in the top division of Switzerland, the country of his birth. He also made a few appearances in Serie A with Parma between 2010-12.
Feltscher has made 19 appearances for Venezuela internationally after representing Switzerland at the youth levels. He featured during the Copa America Centenario and Venezuela’s ultimately unsuccessful 2018 World Cup qualification attempt out of South America.
After a poor season that saw the Galaxy miss the playoffs, the team is looking to overhaul its back line. Feltscher will join new signing Jorgen Skjelvik. The Galaxy also acquired the rights to David Bingham, though they must still sign him to a new contract.
