The Ghanaian has spent only three months at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium but his manager is already aiming at making him the new captain

Fernerbahce coach Phillip Cocu has heaped praise on Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew and wants to name him as the club's new captain.

The 28-year-old joined the Yellow Canaries on a season-long loan from Swansea City in August but with skipper Volkan Demirel close to parting ways with the Turkish club in January, Ayew has been considered as the ideal replacement.

“I have one request, I want you [Ayew] to become the leader of the team," Cocu was quoted as saying by Fotomac.

"Everyone at the club respects you a lot and you're fit to lead them. You will play various offensive roles also on the field,” he said.

Ayew, who has made eight appearances for Fenebahce, scoring two goals, is currently the deputy captain of Ghana, with Kayserispor striker Asamoah Gyan the captain.

Ayew led Ghana U-20 side to win the Fifa U-20 World Cup hosted by Egypt in 2009.

He will become the first Ghanaian to be appointed as the club's captain if he is confirmed. Former Black Stars skipper Stephen Appiah and defender Sam 'Foyoo' Johnson previously had stints at Fenerbahce.
