Senegal coach Aliou Cisse has disclosed that Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has a muscle tear and could be out for three weeks.
The injury was confirmed on Gueye’s arrival in the country’s training camp based in Morocco and he will subsequently miss the Teranga Lions' friendlies against Uzbekistan and Bosnia-Herzegovina on March 23 and March 27 respectively.
Despite playing for the entire duration in Everton's 2-1 win over Stoke City last Saturday, the 28-year-old is set to spend some time on the sidelines after Cisse had his fitness assessed.
"My squad is almost complete, but Gana [Gueye] had a muscle tear when he came over,” Cisse was quoted as saying by The Sun.
"I had wanted him to be in my team, but I think he will be out for three weeks.
"I wanted him to come over with the rest of his national teammates, so we could assess his injury. He was able to do so."
The former Aston Villa and Lille star who has made 33 appearances for Sam Allardyce's team this campaign is set to miss Everton's match against Manchester City on March 31 and the Merseyside derby against Liverpool on April 7.
A fortnight ago, Gueye missed Everton's win over Brighton and Hove Albion through illness.
Senegal will be returning to the World Cup finals since their maiden appearance in 2002 and they have pitted with Colombia, Japan and Poland in Group H.
