The 26-year-old hopes to fight for regular place in the Black Stars following his debut call up

Aalesund attacker Edwin Gyasi wants to make the most of his maiden call-up to Ghana's senior national set-up.

The Norway-based winger is one of 24 players summoned by coach James Kwesi Appiah for the double-header against Congo in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers next month.

It is not the first time the wide-man has been named in a Ghana squad but having failed to make the final party for the 2011 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations after being named in the preliminary squad, the 26-year-old is bent on taking his chance this time around.

"It's a pleasant news for everybody and I'm delighted to get the chance to represent my country," Gyasi, born to Ghanaian parents in the Netherlands, told Ghana Soccer Net.

"It's been a dream and finally it's here. I want to thank the coach and the backroom staff for the opportunity.

"What lies ahead is hard work and we will ensure we do our best for our country.

"It's been my desire to wear the national colours and I hope to seize the moment if I get the chance to play.

"There are many great players in the national team and I hope to learn a lot from them."

After careers with Dutch sides De Graafschap, FC Twente, Heracles and Roda JC, Gyasi joined Aalesund in January last year.

He netted six times in 26 league outings last season and currently holds three goals and 19 appearances to his name this campaign.

The Amsterdam-born has been linked to German outfit VfB Stuttgart and Italian club Napoli.

Ghana, meanwhile, host Congo on September 1, with the return leg slated for September 5 in Brazzaville.
