African legend Didier Drogba has congratulated former England and Chelsea captain John Terry following his retirement from football.

Drogba joined Terry at the Stamford Bridge in 2004 and the duo were teammates for eight years before the former left for Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua in 2012.

Both players won four English Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups and guided Chelsea to their maiden Uefa Champions League triumph in the 2011-12 season.

After a career that spanned 23 years, the 37-year-old confirmed his decision to hang his boots and Drogba has joined the football world to praise the Blues' 'old guard'.

“Congrats on your amazing career my captain, John Terry,” Drogba wrote on Instagram.

“It was a pleasure playing and winning all these trophies with you.

“PS: you still haven’t pay me the bet we did years ago, so please do it before I tell all my follower.”

In 2006, Kalou joined Terry at the London club and won a Premier League title, four FA Cups, one League Cup and a Champions League title before he departed for Lille in July 2012.

"Man we had mad fun, John Terry," the Ivorian forward wrote.
