Coach Madu praises Heartland players’ tactical discipline

The Naze Millionaires’ handler has hailed his players’ mental toughness and discipline after their road win against the Ikon Allah Boys

Heartland coach, Ramson Madu has praised his players’ tactical discipline after they secured their first away win of the season on Wednesday in Lokoja in a rescheduled league tie against Niger Tornadoes.

Lucky Emariojake and Mohammed Afeez put the Naze Millionaires on the path of victory in the ninth and 34th minutes after they benefited from their hosts defensive errors, though Bashir Usman acrobatically halved the deficit in the 55th minute for the side's only goal of the match.

Madu, whose wards endured a difficult second half to secure the famous win, said that he knew that his players would come good later on in the season in spite of their early season struggles when they were without a win in their first five matches.

“It was a difficult game and I must state that the players gave a good account of themselves. They came into the tie with enough motivation and were even flown here by flight to ensure that they do not suffer from any fatigue in the build-up to the encounter. There was no other way to show appreciation for the gesture of the Imo Government and the club management than to leave Lokoja with a good result,” Madu told Goal.

“I told them before the start of the match that should keep it simple and not play under pressure whatsoever. I also assured them that if they are able to stake everything they had into the game that it would be difficult for Tornadoes to beat us before their fans. I am happy that they kept to the coaches' instructions.

“They heeded my admonition and the result is now there for all to see. We actually struggled at the beginning of the season but I said after our match with Yobe Desert Stars that my boys were short of confidence and that our first win will motivate them to go for more victories.

“That is what they have done and I am happy for them. We shall be going into the next game with FC Ifeanyiubah without fear knowing that we can get good result if we are determined to do so."
