Celtic will be hoping to bounce back from a testing week when they take on AIK in the Europa League play-off round on Thursday evening.

The Hoops crashed out of Champions League qualifying a week ago, losing 4-3 at home to Cluj after a 1-1 draw in Romania, and needed extra time to see off Championship side Dunfermline in the Scottish League Cup at the weekend.

Latest Odds

bet365 make Celtic 1/2 (1.50) favourites to put themselves in a strong position to qualify with victory at Parkhead, whilst it is 14/5 (3.80) that the tie remains level ahead of the second leg in Sweden.

AIK lost in the second round of Champions League qualifying and are 6/1 (7.0) to stun the Bhoys and claim a famous victory in Glasgow.

Team News

Scott Bain could return in goal for the Hoops after missing the win over Dunfermline with a hand injury, although Craig Gordon will be hopeful of keeping his place. Tom Rogic, Eboue Kouassi and Daniel Arzani are out.

AIK will be without striker Tarik Elyounoussi, who is suspended. Chinedu Obasi is a doubt, meanwhile. Defenders Joel Ekstrand and Jeser Nyholm are missing.

Preview

There is no doubt that Celtic will be disappointed with the way they were knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers last week, having led Cluj 3-2 on the night with just 10 minutes to go.

Neil Lennon will also have been disappointed that his players were taken to extra-time by Dunfermline on Saturday, with the extra half an hour certainly not ideal preparation.

The Northern Irishman will be after a strong response from his players but in their current form and at just 1/2 (1.50), it is very difficult to make a convincing argument to back Celtic.

Tips and Predictions

Instead, backing goals in Glasgow could be the way to go. The hosts have plundered 30 goals in nine games this season, with 19 coming at home, but their defensive record leaves something to be desired.

Indeed, Lennon’s men have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last four games, conceding eight goals in that time, and the Evens (2.0) price on both teams to score from bet365 looks excellent value for this clash.

It is also worth noting that AIK have scored in their last nine away games in all competitions, but have also conceded nine times in those fixtures.
