Chris Hughton's charges had recorded three successive 1-0 wins in the Premier League before being beaten 3-1 by Everton at Goodison Park last weekend.
The Seagulls, though, will fancy their chances of an immediate return to winning ways, for Cardiff have lost seven of their last eight league games and Neil Warnock's men have slipped back into the bottom three.
A positive result for the Bluebirds would be most welcome and Cardiff are chalked up as 31/20 (2.55) favourites to take all three points.
Cardiff have no fresh injury concerns ahead of Saturday's showdown with the Seagulls, although midfielder Harry Arter is suspended for the Bluebirds.
For Brighton, both Pascal Gross and Davy Propper are rated as doubts, although Hughton has indicated that the former is the more likely to be fit enough to feature.
A tight tussle?
There have been fewer than three goals in four of Brighton's six away matches in the Premier League so far this season and SportPesa go 10/19 (1.53) that the trend continues in this clash.
Furthermore, there have been goals at both ends in just one of the Seagulls' last five fixtures and SportPesa go 20/29 (1.69) that either side fails to score here.
The 2/1 (3.0) quote, then, for Brighton to bag all three points could represent real value for punters.
