Gor Mahia have signed Burundi forward Francis Mustapha, Goal can reveal.

K'Ogalo official Bernard Omondi confirmed the signing of the player on Friday. “Mustapha is in to take Meddie Kagere's position. He arrived on Thursday and trained with the team at Kisumu Stadium and the coach is satisfied.”

The Kenyan champions turned to Mustapha on Wednesday after losing lead striker Meddie Kagere to Tanzanian giants Simba SC.

Goal had exclusively reported on Monday that the Kiyovu striker was keen to turn out out for the Kenyan champions. “Gor Mahia is the best team in this region,” said the 22-year-old forward, who has scored ten times in the Rwandan league this season.

“I watched them play Rayon Sports (in the Caf Confederation Cup in Kigali) and said to myself 'this is the team I want to play for'. Even in Bujumbura, everybody knows about Gor Mahia. Under their current coach, they are playing very sexy football which suits me.

“When Gor Mahia officials reached out to me earlier this month, I was excited, but at that time the league was in a crucial stage and I couldn't get time to come to Nairobi to finalize the move. Now I am ready because we play our final league match of the season on Wednesday.”

Mustapha scored 11 league goals, and 15 in total for Kiyovu Sports, in the just concluded season in Rwanda.

His goals tally include a hat trick against AS Kigali earlier in the season and the winning goals in back-to-back league victories over Mukura and Amagaju.
