England v Russia Betting Special: Headache for Hodgson but Dzyuba is the value

With the Three Lions boss still trying to figure out his best attacking formula ahead of kick off, Al Hain-Cole thinks there is value in backing Russia's prolific frontman to score

With plenty of question marks still surrounding England’s best attacking line-up heading into Euro 2016, Roy Hodgson will be hoping to find a solution in time for Saturday’s opening clash against Russia.
Wayne Rooney’s selection at the tip of a midfield diamond was criticised for forcing Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane into wide positions against Portugal, meaning the boss may look to reconsider for the trip to Marseille.
Still expected to start as a central striker at the Stade Velodrome, Kane is bet365’s 4/1 (5.00) favourite to score the Three Lions’ first goal of the tournament, and available at 11/8 (2.38) to strike anytime.

A tactical reshuffle may see Rooney play from out wide or a deeper midfield role, making him a slightly longer 7/4 (2.75) shot to get on the scoresheet despite boasting an impressive record of 10 goals in his last 14 internationals.
Meanwhile, Vardy may find himself restricted to a place on the bench as an impact substitute, so is priced at 15/8 (2.88) to hit the back of the net for the fourth match in five for his country. If all else fails, Hodgson still has the prolific talents of both Marcus Rashford 7/4 (2.75) and Daniel Sturridge 15/8 (2.88) in reserve to call upon.

At the other end of the pitch, Leonid Slutsky looks set to choose between Artem Dzyuba and Fyodor Smolov in the central striker role, with the former seemingly the strongest candidate. Having scored eight goals in six starts during qualification – a total bettered by only Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski – the Zenit St Petersburg man looks like strong value at 11/4 (3.75) anytime odds.
Top scorer in last season’s Russian Premier League, Smolov can be backed at 10/3 (4.33) to boost his own international credentials by grabbing a goal at the Stade Velodrome.
