Bernard Parker agrees to new Kaizer Chiefs deal

Amakhosi have confirmed the contract extension of one of their star players and have decided to promote another one of their youngsters

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that veteran striker Bernard Parker will be staying at the club after agreeing to a new deal.

There has been much speculation surrounding the future of the 32-year-old, especially after his recent resurgence under coach Ernst Middendorp.

Parker has become a focal point of Chiefs’ attack under the German, and his performances have seen him duly rewarded by the club as he put pen to paper on a new one-year deal, with a further one-year option to extend.

This should keep Parker at the club for at least one more year with his current contract running out at the end of the season.

The former FC Twente attacker is in his eighth season at Naturena and has featured in 18 league games this season, scoring two goals in the process.

Meanwhile, the transfer window may be closed, but this has not stopped Chiefs from injecting new blood into the team with the acquisition of youngster Njabulo Blom from the club’s reserve team having been given a four-year contract.

The 19-year-old is a defender by trade and Middendorp may look to give him some much-needed minutes under his belt as Chiefs build for the future.

Both players could potentially be involved in action on Saturday afternoon when Amakhosi take on a beleaguered Maritzburg United.

While Chiefs are mathematically still in the title race with eight points the difference between them and log leader Orlando Pirates, defeat could spell the end of the Glamour Boys' title challenge, leaving them with just the Nedbank Cup as they look to end their trophy drought.
