Asec Mimosas v Mamelodi Sundowns : Kick off, TV channel, live score, squad news & preview

Masandawana will look to complete the double over the former African champions on Tuesday evening

Mamelodi Sundowns will look to put themselves in pole position to advance from their Caf Champions League group when they take on Asec Mimosas in Abidjan on Tuesday.

Masandawana will be high in confidence considering that they walked away with a comfortable 3-1 win the last time these two sides met, but this time around, it might not be all easy pickings for the Tshwane giants.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane previously alluded to the fact that his side will do well to come away from Ivory Coast with maximum points. This is due to Mimosas formidable run at home, where they have won all of their last five games in all competitions on their own turf.

Pitso Mosimane, Mamelodi Sundowns, August 2018

Meanwhile, there has been plenty of talk regarding whether or not Sundowns should rest some players for the game due to the strain that the players are currently undergoing. Mosimane is unlikely to oblige considering the stakes.

New signing Emiliano Tade is likely to start the game from the bench despite having previously found the net against the Ivory Coast giants. This could see Lebohang Maboe and Gaston Sirino continue to lead the line, or perhaps Jeremy Brockie, who has fallen out of favour of late, could be drafted into the starting XI, to bring about a much more physical element.

But one player, who is almost certain to start is Themba Zwane. The 29-year-old is enjoying a rich vein of form on the continent having netted three goals in Sundowns’ last two games.

At the back though, it remains to be seen if Denis Onyango has shrugged off yet another injury.

The Ugandan has endured an injury-plagued season, which most recently kept him out of the league clash against Black Leopards.

If he is unable to feature, then Kennedy Mweene is likely to deputise in his place.

On the side of Asec, all eyes will be on Ahmed Diomande, who is the club’s joint top scorer in the competition with two goals along with young sensation Abdoul Tapsoba.

The home side have scored just seven goals in the competition which should be of worry to their technical team, considering that Sundowns, on the other hand, have conceded just five goals.

Match Preview

This will be only the second competitive meeting between the two sides, but with a place in the knockout rounds of the Champions League at stake, a feisty encounter is expected from start to finish.

This is a real possibility as Sundowns have a tendency to start well and end well in Africa having scored 47% of their goals between minutes 0-15 and 75-90.
