After nine games since the beginning of the tournament, the Arabian Gulf Cup comes to an end with Al Wahda and Al Wasl facing off in what is one of the most anticipated fan clashes in years. Both sides’ fans have been rivalling each other since the start of the league season where both teams challenged for the title, and this final will cap off what has been an exciting season for The Maroon and The Cheers.
Road to the final
Al Wahda and Al Wasl were in the same group and have already played each other once in this competition, with Al Wahda winning that encounter 3-0. This helped them finish in 2nd place with 8 points, ahead of Al Wasl with 7 points.
In the quarter finals, Al Wahda defeated rivals Al Ain 2-1 and 5-1 to qualify for the semi-finals with a 7-2 aggregate scoreline. In the semi-finals, they continued with the influx of goals as they thrashed Dibba 8-5 over two legs.
Al Wasl also beat their rivals in the quarter finals when they defeated Al Nasr 1-0 after a 2-2 draw in the first leg. In the semi-finals, they faced another one of their Dubai rivals in Shabab Al Ahli Dubai, drawing 0-0 in the first leg before a 3-2 victory in the dying minutes of the second leg.
