Kwara United striker, Alfred Stephen has revealed that their resolve to leave the relegation zone at the end of the weekend games is the driving force behind their determination to beat FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Sunday in Ilorin.
Despite losing only twice in the last 11 games prosecuted by new head coach, Abubakar Bala, the Harmony Boys still occupy the last slot in the drop zone (17th)in the league table with 26 points from 23 matches but Stephen said that he is confident that they will be out of it by the time they beat the Anambra Warriors.
He lamented that they did not deserve to be in the precarious position they are in the league table despite recording some impressive results away from home but he acknowledged that they must strive to cancel out their opponents at home better than they are doing now.
“This is an important match for us and for our season and we are joking with it at all,” Stephen told Goal.
“We know that we have destiny in our hands with the amount of effort we have shown in recent matches. We have spoken to ourselves and the objective is to pick the three points against FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
“We know that it won’t come on a platter of gold and it is the reason we have prepared very hard for this game and are optimistic of a home win that will take us out of the relegation zone. Our Sunday foes may be experiencing some tough times of their own but our resolve is very simple: which is to beat them.
“It is still a surprise to us all that despite our hard work in our away games we have not complemented that with our home performances. We know that this must improve and it must start with our Sunday opponents because this match is very important to our season.”
