Kawasaki Frontale's attacking midfielder Yu Kobayashi has been very vital in the Japanese side's run to the AFC Champions League. He played a huge role in the pre-quarterfinal against Muangthong United, scoring in both legs of a 7-2 aggregate triumph.

Now, Kobayashi has been brilliant in the first leg of the AFC Champions League quarterfinal against fellow Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds. He starred with two goals as Kawasaki Frontale won 3-1, putting themselves at a huge advantage ahead of the second leg.

The 29-year-old opened the scoring from 10 yards just after the half hour before heading home from close in with five minutes remaining to give his side a two-goal cushion ahead of the return fixture next month.

Kobayashi had many shots on goal and completed 38 passes, earning himself a rating of 8.6, as Kawasaki stretched their unbeaten run on the continent to nine while also making it five wins in a row.

He had a passing accuracy of 76% and also created at least four goalscoring chances for his teammates, dazzling throughout the game. He was the captain on the day for Kawasaki and lived up to the responsibility by powering his team to a good position.

In short, he was too hot to handle and is rightly named the Toyota Asian Player of the Week!
