The Fire Club's manager has lauded his players and club owner after lifting the top-flight trophy for the second time

Aduana Stars coach Yussif Abubakar says his side deserved to win the 2017 Ghana Premier League title.

The Dormaa Ahenkro-based club pipped Elmina Sharks 2-1 at home on Sunday to lift their second trophy with a game to spare.

"I can't easily describe the difficulties surrounding our success story but I strongly believe Aduana deserved to win the Ghana Premier League title because we had a better team than others," Abubakar told Goal.

"Club owner Nana Agyeman Badu and the supporters were solidly behind us throughout the season and I'm grateful to them."

Despite the 'favourite traditional clubs' in the top-flight, Abubakar insisted that Wafa were the team that gave them the toughest opposition.

"All the clubs were difficult to play against especially Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak but I think Wafa were the side that gave us a good run for our money. They were very consistent with their play and results but veered off along the way and that helped us to clinch the trophy. If you lose concentration, you can't achieve your aims in life."

He added: "I signed a two-year contract with Aduana and I want to exhaust it. If the need arises, I will extend my stay to help the club achieve the targets especially in the Caf Champions League."

Aduana, who are the first club to win the title with 57 points or more since 2012, will be officially handed the trophy on Sunday by the Premier League board, when they travel to Obuasi to face Ashanti Gold.
