Shelbourne announce signing of Ireland international Stephen Elliott

The former Sunderland striker had trained with Shamrock Rovers prior to the commencement of the season but has opted to drop down a division

Shelbourne have announced the signing of former Republic of Ireland international Stephen Elliott.

The move is subject to international clearance, but the 32-year-old is expected to join the SSE Airtricity League First Division side until the end of the 2016 season.

Elliott, who lists Manchester City, Sunderland and Norwich City among his former clubs, had been without a club since departing Carlisle United in the 2014-15 season after suffering injury.

The Dublin native made his senior international debut against Croatia in November 2004 and went on to make nine appearances for the Boys in Green, scoring once - the decisive goal in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Cyprus in 2005.

Elliott had been training with Premier Division outfit Shamrock Rovers during pre-season but has instead linked up with Shelbourne, who are currently sixth in the First Division.
