Cork City to face Dundalk in 2016 President's Cup

The 2016 curtain-raiser will be contested between Stephen Kenny's Lilywhites and John Caulfield's Rebel Army

Dundalk will face Cork City in the 2016 President's Cup, the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has confirmed.

The game is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 27 at Turner's Cross and will kick off at 14:00.

The competition, which kicked off in 2014 after being presented by President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, is normally contested between the winner of the Premier Division and the winner of the FAI Cup.

However, since Dundalk won both competitions, Cork City were selected to contest the trophy after finishing runners-up to Dundalk in both the FAI Cup and the SSE Airtricity Premier Division in 2015.

Stephen Kenny's side are the current holders of the President's Cup, having defeated inaugural winners St Patrick's Athletic in the 2015 edition.

The game will act as a curtain-raiser for the 2016 League of Ireland season, which will kick off on March 4.
