King names home-based Ireland Under-21 squad

Noel King has named a 19-man panel for the upcoming friendly with the Republic of Ireland Amateur team on February 21

Republic of Ireland Under-21 manager Noel King has announced a home-based squad to play against the Republic of Ireland Amateurs.

The Boys in Green will take on Gerry Smith's amateur side before they depart for the Uefa Regions Cup, with King using the friendly to assess domestic talent ahead of the Uefa European Championship squalifying campaign.

"This is the third time we’ve played a game against Gerry’s sides and they are always excellent matches for our players to make an impression," King told the FAI''s official website.

"The Amateurs are all men and are a very well-organised outfit with a manager who has been one of the most successful of all the international teams in the association.

“For us, we are always looking for players capable of stepping up to U21 level so this game gives us an opportunity to work with many of the players we’ve seen with their clubs in the SSE Airtricity League."
