Celtic have joined the wave of sympathy for Kilmarnock midfielder Liam Kelly by offering their condolences after the player's father died tragically after Sunday's Scottish League Cup final.
Jack Kelly, 59, is understood to have suffered a suspected heart attack in the stands at Hampden Park moments after Kilmarnock pulled off an upset to beat the Hoops.
“Celtic Football Club would like to offer its sincere condolences to the family of Kilmarnock midfielder Liam Kelly whose father Jack tragically died following Sunday’s Scottish Communities League Cup final at Hampden,” the Celtic statement read.
Kilmarnock star Liam Kelly was told the tragic news as he celebrated with his team-mates on the pitch. He went to the nearby hospital to be with his father where his Dad passed away.
“Given what happened it feels like we actually lost the cup final,” said Kilmarnock captain James Fowler.
