Commentary

That's all for now though, goodbye!
The result means that Milan cut Inter's lead at the top of Serie A to eight points, while Genoa drop to 14th.
Milan survive a late barrage to defeat Genoa 2-1. The hosts quickly took the lead in this one when Rebic fired in a spectacular half-volley, and they could have added to their lead through Leao. But Genoa equalised against the run of play when Destro headed in Zajc's corner just before half time. Milan continued to dominate the second period though, and got their reward when Calhanoglu's corner hit Scamacca and went in for an unfortunate own goal. The visitors rallied late on and were unlucky not to equalise, when Tomori and Kjaer both heroically made clearances on the goalline to ensure Milan collected all three points.
90' + 3' FULL TIME: Milan 2-1 Genoa

G. Scamacca
Own Goal
68' SCAMACCA OWN GOAL! 2-1 MILAN! The hosts retake the lead as Calhanoglu's wicked corner spins past Mandzukic, before hitting Scamacca and ricocheting past a helpless Perin!
67' Milan have failed to win four of their last seven home games against Genoa, and unless they can find a winner in the final 20 minutes, this unwanted record will continue.
65' Pjaca leads another breakaway with a lively run inside the Milan half, but Bennacer gets back to help crowd him out.
M. Mandžukić

50' Huge miss from Rebic! Leao slaloms into the box before squaring it to Rebic, who blazes a wild shot well over the bar from five yards! That really should have found the back of the net!
48' Milan would have found it extremely frustrating to concede an equaliser just before half time: they'd produced eight shots to Genoa's two, and deserved to be leading.
46' Milan get the second half underway.
Genoa defended well in that half though, and they'll be hoping for similar success in the second 45.
It's all square going into the break at the San Siro! Milan took the lead early on, when Rebic lashed in a brilliant strike from 20 yards. But the hosts lost their way late on in the half and allowed Genoa back into it when Destro overpowered Tomori to head in Zajc's corner. Milan were mostly in control of the game in the first period though and they'll be hopeful about earning three points by full time.
45' + 1' HALF TIME: Milan 1-1 Genoa
45' Close! Saelemaekers cuts inside and curls a dangerous effort from 20 yards just wide of the far post!
43' The hosts are suddenly showing intent again going forward as they attempt to re-establish their lead.
41' Kalulu's dangerous cross is flicked clear by Goldaniga, under pressure from Leao.
39' Milan try to respond instantly, but Kessie can only steer his 20-yard volley comfortably wide.
M. Zajc
Assist
37' It was an inviting delivery into the six-yard box from Zajc, but that goal was all about Destro anticipating the cross and getting there just ahead of Tomori!

Goal
37' DESTRO! 1-1! Genoa equalise as Destro beats Tomori to meet Zajc's corner and head it beyond a motionless Donnarumma from five yards!
36' This game's suddenly gone a little quiet as Milan attempt to secure their lead before the break.

32' Badelj lashes a wild volley comfortably wide from 25 yards.
30' Destro forces Donnarumma into a brave save at his near post, but the flag was raised and a goal wouldn't have counted.
28' Theo is lucky to avoid a yellow card, after bundling Ghiglione over to stop a counter.
E. Goldaniga
Yellow Card
26' Goldaniga is shown a yellow card after an awkward late challenge on Calhanoglu.
25' Leao dribbles ominously into the box against a backtracking Goldaniga, but he loses his footing at the crucial moment allowing Genoa to clear.
23' Kjaer's searching long pass over the top of the defence sails straight through to Perin.
21' Genoa have only won one of their last nine Serie A matches and it's already looking like they won't be able to arrest that slide today.
19' Chance for Leao! Milan work a flowing move that ends with Calhanoglu slipping Leao in behind the defence! However, the striker's angled drive from 12 yards is too close to Perin and the goalkeeper blocks it to safety!
17' Badelj's corner is headed clear at the near post by Kjaer.
15' Well, that's the ideal start for Milan. They've taken control of this game early on and - with the opening goal - it's going to be difficult for Genoa to recover.
P. Kalulu
Assist
13' It was a simple pass from Kalulu out towards Rebic to retain possession, and surely he didn't expect the brilliant strike that followed!
A. Rebić
Goal
13' REBIC! 1-0! Theo curls a free-kick into the wall and it falls to Kalulu, who chests it out towards Rebic on the edge of the box, where the attacker swivels before firing a powerful half-volley across Perin and into the top corner!
12' Tomori clips a clever pass over the top of the defence towards Saelemaekers, but it's slightly too powerful and Perin races out to gather it.
10' Milan have taken control of the game early on, but their dominance hasn't translated into many shots or opportunities so far.
8' Bennacer tracks the run of Destro and tackles the attacker just inside the box.
6' Calhanoglu's cross runs all the way out to Theo, who skews a shot well wide from just outside the box.
4' Rebic is down after Ghiglione caught him with an arm while battling for a header, but he should be fine to continue.
3' Milan settle into the game with a long spell of possession inside their own half.
1' Genoa get the first half underway.
The players are emerging from the tunnel and kick off is just seconds away!
In 2021, only Benevento, Cagliari, Parma and Torino have won fewer home matches than Milan in Serie A (W2 D2 L4 for the Rossoneri).
Genoa, meanwhile, make six changes after losing to Juventus: Criscito, Biraschi, Behrami, Rovella, Zappacosta and Pandev all drop out.
Milan make one change to the side that beat Parma 3-1 last time out: Ibrahimovic is suspended and so Leao comes in.
