Commentary

That's all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
Ajax now have to beat Atalanta next week in order to secure qualification, as Atalanta drew with Midtjylland. Meanwhile Liverpool will be able to rest a few players as they are already through to the Last 16.
Liverpool secure qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League with a 1-0 victory over Ajax after a second half goal from Jones, following a mistake by Onana. There should have been more goals, with both teams having some excellent chances, Firmino and Salah going closest for the hosts. Meanwhile Antony and Neres had some great opportunities for the visitors, before Kelleher pulled off a superb stop to deny Huntelaar late on.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: LIVERPOOL 1-0 AJAX
90' + 3' Liverpool are starting to take their time with set pieces and throw-ins, just slowing the pace down as they try and see the game out.
S. Mané
Yellow Card
90' + 2' Mane is also booked late on after his trailing arm catches Tagliafico in face. That looked like a soft one.
J. Henderson
Yellow Card
90' + 1' Henderson is booked after he deliberately trips Gravenberch up as he looks to counter.
90' There will be a minimum of four minutes added time played at the end of the second half.
R. Williams
Mohamed Salah
90' Late Liverpool substitution now with Salah the man coming off and he has been replaced by Rhys Williams.
88' HUGE SAVE! Huntelaar with a superb opportunity to level the scoreline for Ajax! A cross comes in from the right wing and the striker gets away from Fabinho and powers a header towards goal. However, Kelleher shows great reactions to parry it away to safety from close range.
88' It's a very attacking Ajax side on the pitch now and they are pushing forward in search of an equaliser, however, they've only got a couple more minutes to get one.
L. Martínez
D. Blind
86' The other Ajax change sees Blind head off the pitch and he has been replaced by Martínez.
K. Huntelaar
N. Mazraoui
86' Double substitution by Ajax, one of which sees Mazraoui replaced by Huntelaar.
85' CHANCE! How did he miss! Salah races through on goal down the left, just managing to stay onside and he only has Onana to beat. However, he slashes his effort well wide in the end, poor strike.
83' SAVE! Brilliant move by Liverpool and Firmino almost doubles his sides lead! Salah with a lovely pass to feed Firmino through on goal and he only had Onana to beat. However, the Ajax keeper made a superb save, getting down well and tipped it around the post and out of play.
L. Traoré
David Neres
81' Here is the Ajax substitution, with Neres coming off with an injury and he has been replaced by Traore.
80' Neres has gone down and he is receiving some medical treatment, after a previous challenge on him by Williams. It looks like he may have to come off here.
78' There's not long left to play here, can Ajax find a late equaliser and make it interesting at Anfield? Liverpool look very comfortable at the moment though.
76' Midtjylland are still beating Atalanta 1-0 in Italy, which means that as it stands, it will be a matter of winner takes all between Atalanta and Ajax next week. As both teams will be level on seven points.
74' The pace of the game has dropped in the last few minutes, with Ajax just keeping the ball well and trying to create a goalscoring opportunity. However, the Reds are keeping them at bay and also look dangerous on the counter themselves.
72' Jones is the third teenager to score for Liverpool in the Champions league, after David Ngog and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
G. Wijnaldum
Yellow Card
70' Wijnaldum is the first Liverpool player to be booked after his late challenge on Tadic, he catches the striker high on the leg with his follow through.
Z. Labyad
Edson Álvarez
69' Ajax also make a change with Alvarez the man coming off and he has been replaced by Labyad.
Roberto Firmino
Diogo Jota
68' Liverpool make their first substitution of the game, with Jota coming off and he has been replaced by Firmino.
66' It's end to end at the moment, with both teams just counter attacking all the time as it is really open. Liverpool just need to try and calm the game down and prevent a quick equaliser by the visitors.
64' Good strike! Antony with a low effort towards the Liverpool goal, but it's too close to Kelleher, who comfortably gathers.
62' CHANCE! Almost another for Liverpool after another mistake at the back by Ajax! Salah seems to be able to break through on goal, but Tagliafico manages to get a touch, before Schuurs makes a horrible touch and Salah is in. However, Onana races towards the ball and manages to gather.
60' This is the fourth meeting between Liverpool and Ajax in European competition, with the previous three ending in an Ajax win, a draw and a Liverpool win.
N. Williams
Assist
58' The two Liverpool youngsters link up well, with Williams delivering a lovely ball into the penalty area and his team-mate provided a cool, calm finish.
C. Jones
Goal
58' GOOOAAALLL! Liverpool take the lead, it's 1-0! Jones takes advantage of a huge mistake by Onana in the Ajax goal. Williams whips a deep cross into the box and Onana came out as if to gather the ball, but then thinks it is about to fly over his head and out of play, so he leaves it. However, Jones is there at the far post and he volleys it into the back of the net from just a couple of yards out.
56' CLOSE! Antony gets past a couple of Liverpool defenders, cuts onto his left foot inside the penalty area and then fires a low shot towards the bottom right-corner. However, Kelleher gets down quickly and makes a great save, pushing it out wide, but straight into the path of Neres who sees his effort cannon off the post! Williams just seemed to do enough to put the Ajax man off.
D. Blind
Yellow Card
55' Another Ajax yellow card, this time it is shown to Blind for his challenge on Jota around the halfway line.
54' Great challenge by Schuurs! Mane races through on goal and seems to only have Onana to beat, but the Ajax defender does brilliantly to get back at him and made the sliding tackle. However, it wouldn't have counted anyway as Mane made his run too early and is flagged offside.
52' Decent opportunity! Mane gets to the byline down the left wing and chips a ball into the box towards the far post, but Salah and Williams get in eachothers way and the right-back then mistimes his shot and Onana gathers in the air.
50' GREAT CHANCE! Klaassen with an excellent opportunity to put his side ahead after Ajax take a short free-kick, Tadic releases Neres down the left wing and he drills a superb cross into the box towards Klaassen at the near post. However, despite no Liverpool defenders near him, he heads it wide of the goal. He really should've scored from there.
48' There are a few players getting warmed up on the sidelines now for both sides, so it looks like both managers might not leave it too long before making some changes to try and win the game.
46' The second half is under way!
This game could go either way, with both teams enjoying a few spells of good possession and neither defence look particularly comfortable, with both vulnerable on the counter-attack.
It's goalless at the break between Liverpool and Ajax, despite a few chances for both sides, the best arguably falling to Jones, as his curling strike hit the woodwork early on. Robertson also went close for the hosts at the end of the half. Whilst Klaassen and Mazraoui tested Kelleher in the Liverpool goal, but neither could get on the score sheet.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: LIVERPOOL 0-0 AJAX
45' There will be a minimum of one minute added time played at the end of the first half.
43' ALMOST! Robertson gets forward on the overlap down the left wing and he spots Onana off his line and there is a slight gap at the near post and the left-back aims for the gap, but he fires his shot into the side netting. He should've tried to square it to a team-mate in the box.
P. Schuurs
Yellow Card
42' It's just a yellow card for Schuurs after his challenge on Mane. The Ajax defender is perhaps lucky to get away with just a booking.
42' CHANCE! Mane is brought down by Schuurs, who blatantly brings the striker down as he raced past him down the left flank and then would've been through on goal. The referee now has a decision to make, will it be a yellow or red card as Mane appeared to be through on goal.
41' Ajax are unbeaten in their last 11 away games in the Champions League (W7 D4); their longest run away from home in the competition since between September 1994 and March 1997 (14 games – W10 D4).
39' There's not long left to play before the end of the first half now, can either side break the deadlock before the half-time whistle?
37' Kelleher will be delighted with his performance so far, it's his European debut, deputising for the injured Alisson and the young Irish keeper has looked comfortable and has dealt with everything that has come his way.
35' Into the wall! Henderson tries to curl a free-kick around the wall, but the Ajax defenders do their job well and make the block, before clearing the danger.
34' Free-kick to Liverpool in a good position after Jota is hacked down by Alvarez after the striker produced a lovely touch and finish. It's going to be either Henderson or Robertson to take it.
32' SAVE! Kelleher with a superb diving save to deny Mazraoui as the Ajax full-back got forward and picked up the ball around 25 yards out and unleashed a powerful strike at goal that was heading for the top right-hand corner. However, the Liverpool keeper made an excellent stop to push it over the bar.
30' We're past the half an hour mark here at Anfield and it remains goalless between Liverpool and Ajax. Meanwhile in the other game in Group D, Midtjylland are beating Atalanta 1-0.
28' Worry here for Robertson, as he is receiving some medical treatment on the pitch, strapping up his ankle and it looks to be the same injury that he picked up early on. The left-back is going to try and play on for now.
26' Liverpool’s defeat against Atalanta ended a run of eight consecutive games without defeat in the group stage of the Champions League (W7 D1), while the Reds have only once previously lost consecutive group stage games in the competition under Klopp (in November 2018).
24' Ajax are growing in confidence now, they are keeping possession well and have created a couple chances in the last few minutes, which is testing the makeshift Liverpool defence.
22' Almost! Tadic whips a lovely cross into the box, which takes a little deflection off Williams and Klaassen just can't reach it with his head. Any touch on that and it surely would've gone in. Robertson then clears the danger at the far post.
21' CHANCE! Klaassen with an excellent opportunity to head Ajax into the lead, after Neres whips a lovely cross into the box. However, his header is slightly too close to Kelleher who makes a good save. Luckily for Liverpool it wouldn't have counted anyway as the midfielder was offside.
19' Decent opportunity! Antony cuts inside from the right wing, shifts the ball onto his left foot and tries to curl it into the top left-hand corner. However, he gets it all wrong and the ball flies well wide of the Liverpool goal.
17' The game is quite open at the moment, with both teams pushing forward and trying to catch other out on the counter. However, it is Liverpool who are keeping the ball well at the moment.
15' Ajax have only played away at Liverpool in the European Cup/Champions League once previously, with the two sides playing out a 2-2 draw in the second leg of a Last 16 tie in 1966-67 (Ajax won 7-3 on aggregate).
13' Mane races through on goal, with two Ajax defenders next to him and they just manage to close the space and usher the ball away from danger before he can get a shot away. There is a slight nudge in the back by Schuurs but nothing is given.
11' Robertson looks like he may have an issue here, he seems to be limping slightly after a tackle from Antony in the middle of the pitch. Hopefully for Liverpool he will be fine to continue.
10' Liverpool are finding a lot of space in the final third and are causing the Ajax defence plenty of problems early on, they look like they may have a few chances at goal today.
8' Liverpool will qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League if they avoid defeat today, however, they will want to bounce back from their defeat against Atalanta last week.
6' OFF THE POST! Terrific strike by Jones! Klaassen loses the ball deep in his own half and Salah is fed in the box, he can't get a shot away so lays it off to Jones on the edge of the box, who tries to curl it into the top right-hand corner of the net. However, it cannons off the woodwork and Ajax clear the danger.
4' Ajax win the first corner of the game, they play it short and then whip a good ball deep into the penalty area, but a header from Schuurs flies high over the Liverpool goal.
2' Decent effort! Jones with a good strike from the edge of the penalty area after a quick counter by the hosts. However, his effort it too close to Onana and the Ajax keeper makes a comfortable save.
1' We're under way!
The teams are out on the pitch and kick-off is just a few minutes away, stay tuned for all of the match action!

Liverpool suffered a surprise  2-0 defeat against Atalanta last time out in the Champions League, but they are still top of Group D on nine points, after winning their first three games.
