K’Ogalo kept their dominance over a struggling Ingwe side after two goals in either half gave them bragging rights in the derby

Gor Mahia moved second on the log following a 2-0 victory against rivals AFC Leopards on Saturday.

Kenneth Muguna and Francis Kahata scored a goal apiece to hand K’Ogalo their 28th Mashemeji Derby victory in the 85th meeting between the two sides; and three vital points that took them jointly with Bandari on 22.

Oozing with confidence from the moment they stepped out of the tunnel, Gor Mahia took the game to Ingwe. Kahata made a run from the right but he was cut off by the defense. Ugandan Shafik Batambuze delivered a cross from the left but it went off the field of play after a slight deflection.

First-half hero - Muguna hit the woodwork with a ferocious shot and he was later denied at close range by Rwanda international Eric Ndayishimiye before he returned with a killer touch a few minutes later.

AFC Leopards made a first meaningful threat at K’Ogalo with a run by Wayi Yeka but the man, who was signed from Tanzania ran out of space as the ball rolled out for a corner. Nicholas Kipkirui cross from the right was deflected off Christopher Oruchum’s leg but Ndayishimiye picked to quell the tension as both sides pushed for an early goal.

Muguna gave the Hassan Oktay coached side the opener when he scored his first goal this season with only 15 minutes on the clock after the former KF Tirana midfielder turned his opponent before firing through the legs of Ndayishimiye.

K’Ogalo’s attack started with Boniface Omondi, who picked Kahata on the left-edge and the influential midfielder dropped a lovely ball inside the box. A miss by Ingwe’s defenders, and the ball fell on the foot of Omondi but he never had real contact. Muguna took advantage, turned his marker on the blind side before firing a hard shot past Ndayishimiye.

AFC Leopards won a set piece from a promising position after Joash Oluoch brought down Yeka outside the edge of the area and the ball took a deflection, but Whyvonne Isuza could not direct his free header past Boniface Oluoch, who had already gone the wrong side.

Gor Mahia picked from where they left in the second half. Batambuze once again delivered a ball to Kahata whose header to Tuyisenge was cut off with the keeper well beaten to the ground.
