That concludes our commentary of the pre-season friendly between Bayern Munich and Manchester City! We hope you’ve enjoyed it!
Bayern Munich are in action again next Saturday, when they play RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup. Manchester City are in action on the same day in the Community Shield.
Bayern Munich were unable to overcome Haaland’s early goal as Manchester City beat Bayern Munich 1-0 at Lambeau Field in a shortened pre-season friendly. Rain delays before and during the match led to an 80-minute fixture which saw Guardiola’s side dominate proceedings with an intense press and sharp counter-attacks. De Bruyne and Grealish looked in-form as they dictated play, constantly looking to play a pass across the face of goal for a team-mate. The Bavarians had opportunities of their own but they were few and far between, with a lack of cutting edge on display at the top-end of the pitch.
FULL-TIME: BAYERN MUNICH 0-1 MANCHESTER CITY.
Bayern Munich get the ball to the edge of the penalty area but the referee blows his whistle anyways, bringing the shortened match to a close much to the dismay of the Bavarians.
INCREDIBLE! Lewis drives into the penalty area from the left wing and demonstrates lovely footwork to get by three converging Bayern Munich defenders, leaving them in his wake as he gets to the byline. His eventual shot looks to confuse Ulreich but the post comes to the goalkeeper’s rescue - denying the opportunity.
One Manchester City academy player comes on for another as Lewis replaces Wilson-Esbrand at left-back.
De Bruyne’s corner is again put to the far edge of the penalty area for Grealish, who is unable to trouble Ulreich with an unconvincing delivery.
Bayern Munich and Manchester City have met nine total times in their history going back to 2011 - scoring 28 goals in the process but have yet to draw, with a winner in every match.
Zirkzee will look to provide an attacking thrust in the late stages of the game as he's introduced for Muller.
Looking to protect the carded Pavard, Nianzou comes on to see out the remainder of the match.
A swap at left-back sees Davies replaced by Wanner.
Vidovic gets a chance to impress as Gnabry is taken off after a rather unimpressive display.
Stanisic comes on for the booked Hernandez with nine minutes remaining.
Nagelsmann has called a number of his substitutes to the touchline, with a raft of changes imminent with just under 10 minutes to go.
Hernandez is belatedly shown a yellow card for a tough sliding challenge that sends Palmer up into the air before crashing to the turf.
He's been on the pitch for less than a minute but Phillips is already shown a yellow card for bundling Kimmich over rather clumsily in midfield.
One left-footed winger comes on for another as Palmer replaces Mahrez.
Silva makes way with 15 minutes left to go, as Phillips gets another chance to acclimatise to Guardiola's style.
Ederson launches a long pass down the pitch from inside his own penalty area, which reaches Ulreich’s 18-yard box at the other end of the field. Cancelo tracks the flight of the ball and looks to bring it down under his control but he inadvertently catches Hernandez in the face with a high boot. It’s a yellow for the full-back.
The last meetings between Manchester City and Bayern Munich in competitive play was in the group stages of the Champions League in 2014/15. The two sides played twice that season, with Manuel Pellegrini’s City and Guardiola’s Bayern each winning once.
Alvarez looks to play Mahrez into the penalty area with a clever pass but Kimmich reads the danger and gets there first, eventually winning a free-kick from the over-eagerly pressing winger.
Mahrez and De Bruyne stand over the set-piece but it’s the former who takes it - sending his powerful strike into the middle of the wall.
Pavard slides into a challenge on Grealish, catching the Manchester City winger on the ankle with his studs. It's a yellow card for the France international, who also gives away a free-kick 20 yards from his own goal.
It looks as though there won’t be a tactical switch after the defensive change, with Walker slotting into a position at right centre-back. Ever the versatile player, Guardiola is evidently looking to test new ideas in pre-season with his right-back.
Guardiola takes this opportunity to make an alteration as well, sending Walker on for Dias.
Nagelsmann makes a switch on the wing, with Musiala coming on for Sane.
It's also a second appearance for the Bavarians for Gravenberch, who is in for Sabitzer in midfield.
M. de Ligt
Former Juventus defender De Ligt comes on for his second pre-season appearance, taking Upamecano's spot.
Gnabry gets forward down the left and draws Dias towards him before playing a cross to the far post for Muller. The delivery sails over the head of the Germany international striker - much to his disappointment.
Ake manages to scramble the ball clear from inside his own penalty area, finding Grealish on the wing before Manchester City are given a free-kick for a foul in midfield to help clear their lines.
The last two meetings between Bayern Munich and Manchester City have been in pre-season, with encounters in 2016 and 2018, with each team securing a victory.
Mahrez plays a hooked cross into the penalty area for De Bruyne, who controls the ball with his back to goal before laying it off to Cancelo. Much to Guardiola’s frustration however, the Portugal international drifts offside carelessly in front of the linesman - ending the move abruptly.
ALMOST THE INSURANCE! Silva takes a quick throw down the left, which allows Alvarez to explode into space in Bayern Munich’s half. The newly signed striker gets into the penalty area and looks to beat Neuer at the far post but he’s unable to hit the target from close range!
Manchester City get the match restarted from the kick-off, after a shortened half-time break.
A change in goal sees Ulreich play the second half - spelling Neuer.
Haaland's goal remains the difference, but he won't see out the remainder of the game. Alvarez gets a chance to impress instead.
Coman makes way for Mazraoui at the interval in a change for Bayern Munich.
The second half will no doubt feature a number of changes, with both Nagelsmann and Guardiola keen to get a look at the full extent of their squads. Despite fitness being the primary concern, Bayern Munich must find a way to get their midfield involved. A number of turnovers and a lack of calm on the ball in central positions has given Manchester City a number of opportunities on the counter-attack, while limiting what the Bavarians are able to do moving forward.
A shortened first half at Lambeau Field comes to a close with Manchester City leading Bayern Munich 1-0, thanks to Haaland’s first goal in his debut for Guardiola’s side. The match was played at a great tempo despite the friendly nature of the fixture, though inclement weather in the form of lightning contributed to a stop-star occasion, with the game both delayed before kick-off and interrupted after 12 minutes. Overall the Premier League side look the more cohesive, with their pressing and transitions organised and efficient, while Bayern’s midfield has struggled to get involved.
HALF-TIME: BAYERN MUNICH 0-1 MANCHESTER CITY.
HAALAND SCORES BUT HE’S OFFSIDE! Again Manchester City look to square the ball across the face of goal but Silva is unable to remain onside as he receives Mahrez’s pass before servicing the Norway international.
CHANCE! A cross from the right finds Davies at the far post but his centring pass across the face of goal fails to find Gnabry’s telling touch as the forward is unable to direct the ball into the open net!
Kimmich is not happy with the foul and has something to say to the referee, who produces a yellow card for dissent.
Grealish is brought down by a combination of Pavard and Gnabry, who combine to sandwich the winger inside the centre-circle.
Mahrez gets another chance from the corner, finding Haaland at the near post. The striker flicks the ball on to the far side for Grealish, who can do nothing more than win a throw.
Mahrez’s corner finds an open Rodri, who powers his header towards goal with the ball taking a touch off Hernandez, who unwittingly puts it behind for a second set-piece.
Grealish leads a Manchester City attack, cutting inside and playing a lovely one-two pass with Haaland in a tight spot before opening up play with a delivery out to the right for Mahrez. The Algeria international executes a step-over before playing a low cross into the area but it’s put behind Haaland and promptly cleared.
De Bruyne plays a short corner quickly to Grealish, who promptly returns it to the captain. The Belgium international then whips a cross towards the far post in search of Ake, who heads it wide of the goal.
Cancelo hits a free-kick long into the Bayern Munich penalty area, forcing Coman to turn it behind for a Manchester City corner.
Wilson-Esbrand looks to get involved, receiving a pass from Dias before playing a one-two pass with Silva. The ball returned by the Portugal international is hit just a bit too long however - giving Upamecano a chance to shield it out for a goal-kick.
CHANCE! Dias’ pass forward 20 yards from his own goal is deflected by Davies, presenting the ball to Sabitzer. The midfielder takes a touch to set himself and wires a long-range effort that sends Ederson sprawling but ultimately misses the target.
The Manchester City press seems to be stifling Bayern Munich, with the defence unable to find an easy pass out of the back. Kimmich and Sabitzer are having trouble taking up positions to move the play forward, with Coman the most used outlet.
De Bruyne floats a corner to Mahrez, well outside the penalty area on the far side. It looks to be one from the training ground but it ends up as nothing more than a throw-in with Manchester City unable to capitalise from the set-piece.
Mahrez's corner from the right is met by Ake on the penalty spot but the centre-back fails to find the target with his leaping header.
After quite the delay I am happy to say we have kick-off at Lambeau Field, with the match restarting with 27 minutes left to play in the first half.
It looks as though, in true pre-season style, the match has been shortened in order to find a suitable conclusion. The game will resume, and the teams will play another 27 minutes of the first half. After which there will be a curtailed half-time interval before a 40-minute second period.
The players have once again come out in the rain to go through their warm-ups on the pitch ahead of the restart. It looks as though we'll have a match despite the weather with Bayern and Manchester City looking to get back to action.
Fans are returning to their seats as it looks as though the match officials will try and restart the game imminently.
The rain and the thunder continues to pound down over Lambeau Field as the stands have now been almost fully cleared. Local weather projections do not see this as a passing storm, with the lightning likely to continue long into the night. It remains to be seen whether or not the match will be restarted with safety of paramount importance.
It looks as though the stands have also been cleared as the weather intensifies, with the spectators taking up positions in the concourses.
Just moments after the restart following Haaland's opener, the referee blows his whistle as the lightning appears to have re-emerged after a brief respite. Both teams are now back in the locker room and we await further instruction from the match officials.
Last season's big signing assists this year's as Grealish gets on the scoresheet for his pass leading to Haaland's goal.
OF COURSE HAALAND SCORES! 1-0 Manchester City! Mahrez’s free-kick is cleared by Upamecano, who puts it just outside his penalty area. De Bruyne acrobatically regathers the ball and slips a pass into the 18-yard box for Grealish. The winger drives towards goal before squaring it for Haaland for an easy tap-in!
Grealish is dealt with a little too physically by Coman, who had drifted back to the edge of his 18-yard box to help defend. It’s a free-kick for Manchester City in a dangerous area, with De Bruyne and Mahrez standing over it.
Ake plays a long pass over the top of the defence from an advanced position in midfield but Haaland is unable to reach the delivery despite stretching every sinew - giving Neuer a goal-kick.
Bayern Munich look to have switched to a 4-2-2-2 in attack, with Sane and Coman drifting wide allowing Gnabry and Muller to occupy the space through the middle. Nagelsmann employed a similar formation against D.C. United with Mane in the XI.
CLOSE AGAIN! A Manchester City corner is not effectively cleared by the Bayern defence as it’s headed away to the edge of the 18-yard box. The ball sits up well for Grealish, who has the time and space to hammer a volley that goes narrowly wide of the near post!
CLOSE! A giveaway in midfield leads to a chance for Manchester City as Grealish finds De Bruyne with a leading pass 20 yards from goal, leading to a shot for the captain. The left-footed snapshot looks to catch Neuer off guard but the effort drags wide of the goal.
Grealish gets forward and cuts inside from the left but his incisive pass for Silva is read well by Upamecano, who shepherds the ball out of play for a goal-kick.
Bayern Munich get the match underway from the kick-off!
The players have come back out onto the pitch in order to warm up - with the match scheduled to start in 15 minutes.
The kick-off of the match between Bayern Munich and Manchester City has been temporarily delayed due to a lightning storm in the area. Precautions are being taken at the moment as the start of the game is pushed back.
Manchester City make four alterations to the starting XI that earned a win over Club America on Wednesday. Ederson returns between the posts dropping Ortega to the bench, while Wilson-Esbrand and Dias enter the back four ahead of Walker and Mbete-Tabu. The only other change is a big one with Haaland selected to lead the line over Julian Alvarez in his debut for Guardiola’s side.
Bayern Munich make five changes to the XI that beat D.C. United 6-2 in their opening pre-season fixture. Pavard and Hernandez get the start in defence ahead of Nianzou and Mazraoui, while Kimmich is preferred to Vidovic in midfield. The final two swaps are in attack, where Coman is selected ahead of Copado and Muller is chosen to lead the line over Mane.
MANCHESTER CITY SUBS: Stefan Ortega, Chris Carson, Kyle Walker, Luke Mbete-Tabu, Rico Lewis, Finley Burns, Kalvin Phillips, Cole Palmer, James McAtee, Liam Delap, Kayky, Oscar Bobb, Ben Knight, Julian Alvarez.

With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, let’s take a look at the team news - starting with Bayern Munich!
Manchester City also got off to winning ways on Wednesday, beating Club America 2-1 thanks to a first-half double from captain Kevin de Bruyne. Erling Haaland has yet to make his debut for Pep Guardiola’s side after being kept out of action against the team from Liga MX - with a match against former Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich seemingly a perfect time to acclimate the striker.
Bayern Munich look to continue to their positive start to the pre-season, three days after smashing D.C. United 6-2 in their opening friendly. Both newcomers Sadio Mane and Matthijs de Ligt were on the scoresheet in their debut - which will please coach Julian Nagelsmann to no end ahead of a slightly more difficult task in Wisconsin.
