Barcelona successfully defend their Copa del Rey title, as their resilience shines through. Luis Enrique's men showed great character and determination to hold on following Mascherano's sending off and then Banega's dismissal provided them with the boost they needed. In the end goals from Alba and Neymar did the damage, with Carrico also receiving a late red card in controversial circumstances. The champions just had too much for Sevilla in the end, but they will be looking for revenge in the Spanish Super Cup, when they will meet again.
FULL-TIME!
L. Messi
Assist
Barcelona
Lovely play by Messi, as he jinks past one tackle and then slips the ball in behind the defence, laying it on a plate for Neymar.
Neymar
Goal
Barcelona
GOAL!!! BARCA WRAP THINGS UP! Messi feeds a clever pass through the Sevilla defence and Neymar makes no mistake, stabbing home with a cool finish.
RED CARD! Carrico produces a brilliant tackle on Messi, but the referee sees it differently and awards a booking. The defender is clearly infuriated and the official swiftly hands him a second booking and subsequent red card.
Daniel Carriço
Yellow Card
Sevilla
Yellow card Daniel Filipe Martins Carriço
Sergi Roberto
Jordi Alba
Barcelona
Final switch for Barca, as Alba is replaced by Roberto.
SAVED! Iniesta is having fun at the moment. He gets up the left flank and plays a clever pass to the back post for Neymar, but the Brazilian's header is well kept out by Rico.
Sevilla are doing their best to keep the pressure on, but they just look leggy and tired. It's all very direct and predicatble, but they still have a bit of time left.
K. Gameiro
Yellow Card
Sevilla
Another wasted opportunity for Sevilla. They take the corner short but Escudero again sticks a dreadful cross straight behind. Barca get the ball back in play quickly and Gameiro resorts to cynically fouling Messi to earn a booking.
Better from Konoplyanka. The Ukraine star runs at Alves and gets a cross into the area and Pique nods it behind for a corner.
Well, we have a pause in play here as the referee receives medical attention. The official appears to be suffering with a bit of cramping and is receiving massages to his legs.
Better from Sevilla, as Vitolo clips a pass out to the right for Coke. He knocks into the area with his first touch and then gets a left-footed effort away, but Ter Stegen saves with ease.
Barcelona look to catch Sevilla on the break, as Neymar darts forward. He has three team-mates with him as the defence is outnumbered, but he tries to go it alone and Escudero sweeps up to good effect.
Off we go again, as Barca get the action started again.
The referee is urging a quick change around at half-time in extra-time. Play to get back under way shortly.
HALF-TIME!
SEVILLA SURVIVE! More danger for the Andalusians to contend with, as Neymar is denied twice in quick succession from close range by Rico.
Llorente
Iborra
Sevilla
Substitution Vicente Iborra De La Fuente Fernando Llorente Torres
WHAT A SAVE! Messi delivers a fine free-kick to the back post and Pique ghosts in behind. He meets it with a header, but Rico denies him with a wonderful stop to concede a corner.
Sergio Escudero
Yellow Card
Sevilla
Yet another yellow card. Escudero is the guilty party this time, as he catches Mess late about 30 yards from goal.
Y. Konoplyanka
Yellow Card
Sevilla
Konoplyanka tracks the run of Messi but is forced to pull him back to the left of the Sevilla area and he gets booked for his efforts
The free-kick doesn't cause Barca a great deal of bother and Luis Enrique's men look to catch them on the break. Neymar releases Messi over the top and he tries an audacious effort from 40 yards, but it goes over the crossbar.
Sevilla are straight back on the front foot. Pique is forced to concede a corner and then, after that is taken short, Alves fouls Konoplyanka. What can they muster here?
L. Messi
Assist
Barcelona
Wonderful pass by Messi, as he spots the run of Alba and has the ability to pick the pass too.
Jordi Alba
Goal
Barcelona
GOAL!!!! BARCA HAVE THE BREAKTHROUGH! Fabulous ball from Messi, as he clips a diagonal pass over Vitolo for Alba to latch on to and the left-back produces an excellent finish across Rico to find the net.
Good play by Sevilla. Konoplyanka manages to squeeze the ball in from the left for Iborra, who tees up Gameiro and Pique makes the block.
Excellent tackle by Busquets, as the Spain international looks to have been beaten by Konoplyanka, but he hooks himself round and takes the ball away.
Messi's free-kick is easily cleared, but only as far as Alves, who hoists it back into the danger zone and Coke nods it behind for a corner, which ultimately comes to nothing.
G. Krychowiak
Yellow Card
Sevilla
At long last Krychowiak joins the hefty list of players on a yellow card, as the Pole tracks Neymar and tugs him back as Iniesta looks to feed the Brazilian.
Off we go! Sevilla get extra-time under way.
The referee brings regulation time to a close, with the scores and numbers level. Barcelona found themselves under the cosh for long periods, with Sevilla a man up for almost the entire second half, but Luis Enrique's men held on and eventually Banega saw a late red card. It's all to play for here as we head into extra-time!
END OF 90 MINUTES!
Iborra
Yellow Card
Sevilla
It's all getting a little heated out there! Iborra chases on to Gameiro's headed pass in behind the defence and ultimately clatters into Ter Stegen and the Spaniard is the latest to get booked.
Messi steps up to take the free-kick and he sends a tame effort over the wall, which Rico nudges over the bar for a corner.
É. Banega
Red Card
Sevilla
RED CARD! Sevilla are down to ten men as Banega receives a straight red. The Argentine is left marking Neymar, as the Brazilian darts on to a Messi pass in behind and he has no option but to haul the forward down as the last man.
Dani Alves
Yellow Card
Barcelona
And that's three! Dani Alves also gets a booking for having a go at the referee.
Iniesta
Yellow Card
Barcelona
Captain Iniesta also receives a booking for voicing his displeasure at that decision.
Neymar
Yellow Card
Barcelona
Another yellow card now, as Neymar tries to latch on to a pass in behind the Sevilla defence and goes down. Banega appears to have a hand on him, but he has made the most of it. Clearly disgusted, the Brazilian lets the referee know and gets booked for his opinions.
Jordi Alba
Yellow Card
Barcelona
Excellent play by Iniesta, as the midfielder charges through the middle and penetrates the Sevilla defence. Vitolo darts back and trips him. He gets booked and Messi has the free-kick about 25 yards from goal. This is a real chance.
NO PENALTY! Coke clips a good cross into the area from the right, sending it towards the back post. Iborra and Alves tussle, with the Brazilian seemingly pulling his counterpart to the ground, but even the replays are inconclusive.
The referee has been called over to the touchline, with someone on the Barca bench guilty of saying something out of place. A coach is dismissed, but it is unclear which one.
Sevilla win several corners in succession, but Barca hold their ground and clear their lines as they continue to keep the score level.
Y. Konoplyanka
Mariano
Sevilla
Here's the first throw of the dice from Emery, with Konoplyanka replacing Mariano. An attacking switch from the coach.
Brilliant defending again by Pique, as he comes across and gets in the way of Gameiro's shot after the Frenchman is released into the right side of the area.
Messi charges forward after a kind ricochet in the middle. He has only Mathieu for company and he tries to find the Frenchman, but Rami gets back well and cuts it out.
The crowd waits in expectant fashion, but Messi's effort fails to beat Rico after getting beyond the wall, with the goalkeeper catching it down to his left.
Vitolo
Yellow Card
Sevilla
Excellent play by Iniesta, as the midfielder charges through the middle and penetrates the Sevilla defence. Vitolo darts back and trips him. He gets booked and Messi has the free-kick about 25 yards from goal. This is a real chance.
A. Rami
Yellow Card
Sevilla
Lovely feet from Banega, as the Argentine skips past Rafinha and lures the midfielder into a foul. The resulting kick is dealt with easily by Barca, who swiftly attempt to catch Sevilla on the break with Neymar. He skips past an ugly challenge from Rami and is then hauled down by Iborra. The Brazilian goes head-to-head with the Spaniard, but it is the Frenchman who gets booked for his tackle.
It's Sevilla dictating things at the moment. The Andalusians are getting the ball forward quickly and pouring plenty of men into the final third. The service to Gameiro has been a little lacking so far, though.
Messi stands over the free-kick and clips it into the danger zone, but it sails all the way through to Rico, who plucks it out of the air with ease.
Barca are certainly getting quite frustrated with the referee here. Krychowiak hares back to track Alves and ends up tripping him. The free-kick is given, but again the Pole escapes a booking.
SO CLOSE! Barca are on the ropes here! They are forced into conceding a corner and Sevilla keep the pressure on. The initial ball is cleared but only as far as Krychowiak, whose first-time effort is deflected just wide.
Pique is getting in the way of everything at the moment. This time Sevilla look to play the ball through Barca and Gameiro attempts a one-two on the edge of the area, but the Spain defender gets in the way of the return pass.
Iniesta does well in his own half, as he skips past a tackle and nudges the ball on to Messi. The Argentine clips a decent ball over the top for Neymar to chase, but he is caught offside. Replays show that it was marginal and Barca have perhaps been unlucky there.
Lovely feet from Vitolo, as he cuts inside and shrugs off Alves. He shapes to shoot on the edge of the box but then tries to take on another defender and is tackled. He really should have had a go then.
Very good again from Pique. Iborra produces a clever turn on the left edge of the area and appears to have beaten the centre-back, but he wraps his leg around and dispossesses the midfielder.
Rafinha
L. Suárez
Barcelona
That's the end of Suarez's season. The Uruguay star is unable to continue here and is replaced by Rafinha.
Play gets back under way but Sevilla have to put the ball straight off the pitch immediately, as Suarez goes down off the ball. He is clutching his hamstring. This doesn't look good for him, Barca and Uruguay.
Messi produces a fine pass into the left side of the Sevilla area, which Alba manages to get on to and hook back into the danger zone. Messi continues his run into the box but Carrico nods it away just in time. The two also clash heads, leaving both players looking a little shaken up.
Barcelona survive that period of Sevilla pressure, as Vitolo manages to get in behind Iniesta but his eventual cross is well blocked by Alves.
Excellent defending from Pique again, as he reacts to Gameiro's run. The Frenchman attempts to slide a left-footed ball into the danger zone, but the defender comes across, slides in and puts it behind. Corner.
OFF THE POST! Good football from Sevilla, as they patiently play the ball around in the Barca final third. Eventually Banega finds the space and lets fly from 25 yards, but a slight deflection off Pique sends it on to the frame of the goal.
It's Sevilla seeing more of the ball during these early exchanges. Mariano is invited forward and he clips a cross in, but it is well blocked by Alba.
Bright start to the second half for Sevilla, as Banega gets an early shot away and it is deflected behind for a corner. However, they completely waste it, as it is played short to Escudero and left-back slices it behind for a goal-kick.
J. Mathieu
I. Rakitić
Barcelona
Sevilla get the second half under way, with Barca making one change at the break. Mathieu comes on in place of Rakitic.
The referee brings an intriguing first half to a close with the score level. Barcelona have unsurprisingly dominated possession, but Sevilla have done well to frustrate them and limit their chances in front of goal, with Suarez's early effort and Pique's header just before the break being their only realy opportunities. The major talking point of the first period is undoubtedly the sending off of Mascherano for hauling down Gameiro as the last man, but there can be few arguments with the decision. Can Barca triumph in spite of that? Stay tuned to find out in the second half!
HALF-TIME!
Good play by Barca. Neymar dazzles the Sevilla defence, squeezing between two defenders and then tees up Messi. The Argentine has a go, but his effort is well blocked by Krychowiak.
JUST OVER! Ten-man Barca almost take the lead as Rakitic's corner is met by Pique, but the centre-back heads just over under pressure from Krychowiak.
Good defending from Mariano. The right-back is acquitting himself well against Neymar and he does so again, first getting a foot in as they go head-to-head, before then sliding in and putting the ball out for a corner.
Sevilla have their tails up. Banega produces a lovely pass over Alves for Vitolo to chase. The winger is faced up by the Brazilian and he prods a pass into the area for the advancing Escudero, but Rakitic sweeps up and then plays the ball off the Sevilla left-back and out for a goal-kick.
More fine defending from Carrico, as the Portuguese centre-back tussles with Suarez for a lofted ball, gets it under control and then shrugs the Uruguayan off.
Sevilla somewhat waste the opportunity from the corner, as they take it short and then Vitolo's cross goes straight behind for a goal-kick.
TIPPED OVER! Banega steps up to the free-kick and sends a fine effort goalwards, but Ter Stegen nudges it over the crossbar with a good save.
J. Mascherano
Red Card
Barcelona
RED CARD! A huge decision from referee! Gameiro races on to Iborra's flick-on and looks destined to get into the area but is hauled down by Mascherano, who is the last man. The Argentine is swiftly shown a red card, with Banega left to take the free-kick right on the edge of the box.
A promising move by Barca, as Iniesta darts up through the middle and feeds Suarez. He knocks it back to Mess, who in turn charges into the area, looks for the give-and-go with Iniesta but is held off by Krychowiak.
Sevilla sense the opportunity to counter, as Escudero wrestles the ball off Alves and gets it forward quickly. Iborra finds Gameiro and then continues his run, looking for the return pass up the flank, but Piques comes across and halts it with a fine sliding tackle.
Unorthodox defending to say the least from Rami there! Neymar looks set to burst up the flank for Barca, but the French defender comes across and ends up sliding in head first to tackle the Brazilian. It was actually brilliant improvisation from the centre-back, who was actually mid-stumble.
More fine defending, this time from Banega, as the playmaker gets back and produces a desperate sliding tackle to halt Iniesta and he gets in the way of the Spaniard's cross.
Lovely turn by Messi, as the Argentine skips away from Iborra with his first touch, slaloms past another defender and then slips a pass into the area for Suarez, but Carrico cuts it out well.
Excellent defending by Krychowiak. The Poland star has been everywhere so far and this time he is hassling Neymar, forcing him into an error and then prodding the ball out for a throw-in.
Another decent bit of play from Sevilla. This time Krychowiak's wild shot into the ground bounces up and almost lands kindly in the area for Iborra, but he can't quite get his head to it and then Gameiro is flagged offside.
Good move by Sevilla. Coke cuts out a pass in the centre and he darts forward. He spots the run of Gameiro towards the right and the forward plays the ball into the danger zone first-time, looking for his captain again, but luckily for Barca Mascherano is there to cut it out.
A better corner this time, as Messi's delivery almost sneaks inside the near post. Rico launches himself across and punches clear in commanding fashion.
Sevilla are doing a good job of frustrating Barca so far. This time it is Carrico defending well out on the left, dispossessing Suarez and conceding a corner.
The free-kick comes to nothing, though, as Suarez is swiftly penalised for a shove in the penalty area.
Hefty challenge from Krychowiak, as the Pole tussles with Messi and then brings him down in rather unceremonious fashion. Suarez reacts and has words with the referee and the Sevilla man, but only a free-kick is awarded.
GREAT MOVE! Vitolo does brilliantly up the right flank, as he gets in behind Alba and cuts the ball back to Coke. The captain has a go first-time from 10 yards, but he slices his effort horribly and Barca survive.
Another Barca set-piece goes begging for Barca, as Rakitic's delivery is a little overhit and Sevilla are swiftly looking to counter.
Excellent feet from Iniesta, as the midfielder produces a clever pirouette in the centre, getting him away from two defenders before then feeding Neymar up the left. The Brazilian tries to trick his way past Mariano, but the right-back is alert to the skill and he concedes a corner.
Barcelona escape unscathed, as Iborra is guilty of getting a little handsy with Busquets, who receives a nudge in the back
Escudero quickly gets the ball back from the throw-in and he finds Vitolo, who crosses. The Spain international's delivery takes a deflection and goes out for a corner.
Sevilla make ground up the left flank, as Escudero skips away from Messi and then rides a challenge from Busquets, squeezing the ball on to Vitolo, who wins a throw-in from Alves.
Rakitic's delivery doesn't cause too much bother. Sevilla clear their lines as far as Iniesta, but his lofted pass back into the danger zone goes straight out for a goal-kick.
Risky play by Rami. The Frenchman receives the ball to the right of the Sevilla area and he tries to take on Suarez, but simply knocks the ball straight out for a corner.
SEVILLA SURVIVE! Wonderful play by Iniesta, as he feeds Suarez into the edge of the area. The Uruguayan has Mariano for company but manages to get a shot away, with Carrico backing away. However, he fails to hit the target, sending his effort into the side netting. That's a let-off for the Europa League champions.
These early exchanges certainly have a more fluid feel than the opening stages of Sevilla's Europa League clash with Liverpool. Both sides are getting forward in numbers and look bright. It definitely isn't cagey!
Crucial clearance! Gameiro latches on to a pass in behind Alves and runs at Pique. The Frenchman manages to squeeze his way into the area with the help of a ricochet and looks set to get a shot away, but Mascherano gets in and hacks away just in time.
The early indications of how this match might progress won't surprise many, as Barca dictate possession, while Sevilla pass the ball around sharply when in control, as they look to quickly exploit the pace of Gameiro. Pique is alert to that danger in the first instance, though.
Barca have seen much of the ball during these early stages, but Sevilla are already showing a willingness to get physical, as Carrico crashes into the back of Suarez in the air, before lofting the ball over the top for Gameiro to chase. Ter Stegen sweeps up, while a disgruntled Suarez gets to his feet.
Off we go! Barca get us started in Madrid.
The two teams are out on the pitch, with kick-off just moments away following the Spanish national anthem.
Barca will no doubt come into today's contest as favourites given their status as La Liga champions and their general quality, but Sevilla have become a formidable opponent over the last decade or so, particularly in cup competitions. In fact, the Andalusian side have not lost a final of a genuine cup competition (not including the UEFA Super Cup) since 1962. However, Barcelona are rather good with finals too. The Catalans are going for a 28th Copa title today, further extending their record.
Sevilla, meanwhile, come into this clash no doubt still on a high following Wednesday's brilliant 3-1 defeat of Liverpool to clinch a third successive Europa League title. Today they face completely different beast in Barcelona, but Unai Emery's strategy may well be along the same lines, or that's at least what his choice of starting XI would have one believe. Aside from Rico replacing Soria in goal, the only other change to the team is an enforced one, as Iborra replaces the suspended N'Zonzi.
Mar-Andre ter Stegen starts ahead of Claudio Bravo between the posts, while the back four of Dani Alves, Pique, Mascherano and Jordi Alba more or less picks itself. In front of them will be the ever-present trio of Rakitic, Busquets and Iniesta, while Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar all start in attack, with the Uruguayan fresh from claiming La Liga's golden boot ahead of his two partners and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Barcelona of course stuttered to La Liga success in the end, securing it on the final day of the season last weekend and winning the title for a second season in a row after last year's treble. Although much of the talk in the build-up has been of a rather political nature, some have suggested that has taken some of the attention off the Barca team and allowed for greater focus. Added to that, Luis Enrique has not been dealt any extra injury concerns, with the coach able to name his strongest starting XI.
Much of the build-up to this final has centred around Catalonia's ongoing campaign for independence and the various political agendas surrounding such a topic. The Spanish government initially banned the presence of the Catalan flag at today's match, before Barcelona appealed that decision and won. Despite that victory in the courts of law, the club have voiced their concerns regarding some officials' apparent disregard for freedom of expression. However, there is also a football match to be played here and it promises to be a lively encounter.
Sevilla subs: Beto, Pareja, Konoplyanka, Cristoforo, Reyes, Munoz, Llorente.
Sevilla starting XI (4-2-3-1): Sergio Rico; Mariano, Carrico, Rami, Escudero; Krychowiak, Iborra; Coke, Banega, Vitolo; Gameiro.
Barcelona subs: Bravo, Mathieu, Arda Turan, Rafinha, Sergi Roberto, Vidal, Munir.
Barcelona starting XI (4-3-3): Ter Stegen; Pique, Mascherano, Alba, Alves; Busquets, Iniesta, Rakitic; Neymar, Suarez, Mess
