Women's World Cup 2019 Golden Boot: Morgan, White, Rapinoe & top goalscorers at finals

The race to finish as the leading scorer at France 2019 is proving to be a thrilling one

The race is on to decide who will join some of the most legendary figures in the history of women’s football by winning the Golden Boot at the World Cup finals.

Michelle Akers, Birgit Prinz, Marta and Carli Lloyd are among those who have topped the scoring charts at the finals in the past, and at France 2019 there is intense competition to join such an illustrious list.

Going into the semi-finals, there are four players all tied on five goals, with Australia’s Sam Kerr the only one no longer active in the competition.

Here is the list of the leading markswomen in the competition:

  • Ellen White England 2019

    Ellen White – England – 6 goals

    With her trademark spectacles celebration, the Manchester City forward has netted six times. She has scored against Scotland, Japan (twice), Cameroon, Norway and the USWNT.

  • Alex Morgan France vs USWNT Women's World Cup 2019

    Alex Morgan – USA – 6 goals

    Already had more than 100 international strikes to her name before the World Cup but added another five to her tally against Thailand in a 13-0 win. She scored again in the semi-final against England to help her side to another appearance in the final.

    Sam Kerr – Australia – 5 goals

    The Perth Glory striker opened the scoring for her country against Italy in their opening game but it was her four-goal haul against Jamaica that propelled her into contention to finish as top scorer.

  • Megan Rapinoe Kelly OHara USWNT France

    Megan Rapinoe – USA – 5 goals

    Has made headlines as much for her actions away from the field as on it, but was the USA’s quarter-final hero as she scored twice against France. This added to a double against Spain in the last 16 and a strike against Thailand.

  • Cristiane Brazil Women's World Cup 2019

    Cristiane – Brazil – 4 goals

    The 34-year-old grabbed a memorable hat-trick against Jamaica and was on target in Brazil’s second game against Australia.

  • Wendie Renard France 2019

    Wendie Renard – France – 4 goals

    The centre-back finished as the host nation’s leading scorer, with her aerial prowess unmatched in the tournament.

  • Sara Dabritz Germany 2019

    Sara Dabritz – Germany – 3 goals

    Failed to net in Germany’s opening game against China but then scored the winner against Spain, the second against South Africa and a penalty against Nigeria.

  • Aurora Galli Italy 2019

    Aurora Galli – Italy – 3 goals

    Scored twice against Jamaica and was also on target against China in the last 16.

  • Cristiana Girelli Jamaica Italy Women’s World Cup

    Cristiana Girelli – Italy – 3 goals

    The Juventus striker was one of three players to score a hat-trick against Jamaica, her second treble in official competition for her country.

  • Jennifer Hermoso Spain 2019

    Jennifer Hermoso – Spain – 3 goals

    The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain attacker was Spain’s leading scorer, getting three of the four goals they mustered in the competition.

  • Carli Lloyd USWNT 2019

    Carli Lloyd – USA – 3 goals

    The 36-year-old may no longer be an automatic starter for the USWNT, but she found the net against Thailand and Chile (twice) in the group stages.

  • Vivianne Miedema Netherlands 2019

    Vivianne Miedema – Netherlands – 3 goals

    The 22-year-old sensation is the postergirl of the Dutch side and scored twice against Cameroon in the group stages before netting to eliminate Italy in the quarter-finals.
