David Zappacosta is mulling over his options at Chelsea, with the defender admitting that he may have to move on after already attracting interest from Inter.

The 26-year-old defender only moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2017, with Antonio Conte moving to snap up a fellow Italian.

Fierce competition for places in west London, with Victor Moses preferred in a right wing-back role, restricted his involvement during a debut campaign to just 12 Premier League starts.

A return to Serie A was mooted over the summer, with Maurizio Sarri taking the reins at Chelsea, and Zappacosta admits approaches were received.

He told Corriere dello Sport:  “Could I return to Italy? Yes, Inter had been after me.

“My agent Alessandro Lucci had told me about their interest, although I’ve always remained focused on Chelsea.”

While interest from San Siro was shunned during the Premier League transfer window, it may be that Zappacosta reconsiders his position over the winter.

If he remains on the fringes of the fold, the Italy international concedes that he will be forced to consider a switch elsewhere.

He added: “Could I return in January? I have three more years on my contract here and I only want to think about doing well with Chelsea.

“There’s a lot of competition here, but I want to win a place in the team. After that, it’s clear that if I didn’t find much room, I don’t think any player would like that.”
