Football for Friendship (F4F) – Young Bafana is heading to Russia!
This year is turning out to be a significant one for Young Bafana as several coaches and players will be heading out to Russia to attend the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony where Russia will be facing Saudi Arabia. Why is this? Young Bafana has been chosen as the official ambassador of South Africa through the Football for Friendship incentive by Gazprom!
This trip provides an excellent opportunity to explore the outside world and experience a global event for our two beneficiaries from the U14 performance team as well as U12 & U16 performance coach, Veron Peter, who all live in Lwandle township.
Football for Friendship is an international children’s program initiated by Gazprom and is part of Gazprom’s global project which includes a number of sports and educational events held in different countries.
The global ambassador of this program is none other than German football legend, Franz Beckenbauer, a two-time World Cup winner himself. F4F’s mission is to help the development of children’s football as well as the promotion of the feeling of togetherness and respect among children from different countries. The development of children’s football and lives is of course, a key mission for Young Bafana and one in which it takes great pride .
This great initiative that Young Bafana is thrilled to be a part of is reminiscent of last year’s Fifa Confederations Cup when the Football for Friendship initiative offered us the chance to bring our beneficiaries over to witness the start of the tournament.
To mark the official announcement of the delegation that will be attending this summer’s World Cup Opening Ceremony, Young Bafana will be hosting an event on the 17th of April at De Zalze Golf Estate where our Founder, Bernd Steinhage, will unveil the whole delegation. This will be coupled with a great auction and speech by one of the young beneficiaries who will be representing our organization at this year’s World Cup.
Young Bafana’s trip to Russia will surely become a life changing experience to those in our delegation, especially to our two young beneficiaries who will travel outside of South Africa for the first time, and where they get the opportunity to interact with children from across the globe at one of the world’s biggest sporting events.
