The Morocco striker got the decisive goal that saw the visitors surrender their lead at the top of the table

Khalid Boutaib was on target as Yeni Malatyaspor handed a 2-1 defeat to Galatasaray, to deny them a return to the summit of the Turkish Super Lig log.

Prior to the matchday 16 encounters, Igor Tudor's men were top of the table, but contenders, Istanbul Basaksehir, again, replaced them after they won 4-1 against Antalyaspor in an early kickoff.

A win for the Türk Telekom Stadium would have seen them retake their lead but Boutaib and his teammates had other plans.

First, it was Michael Pereira who saw them go behind in the 38 minutes after he converted a wicked Aly Cissokho left-wing cross past  Fernando Muslera in the visitors' goal.

Five minutes later, the Morocco international then doubled the lead via an Aytac Kara corner kick to end the first half with a two-goal lead.

In the 74th minute, Papa Alioune N'Diaye tried to kick-start a comeback after Sofiane Feghouli's mild touch from a Bafetimbi Gomis scuffed effort found the Senegal midfielder in the perfect spot to bundle in.

The game would, however, end that way with Galatasaray, still on 32 points from 16 games, relinquishing their lead. Together with N'diaye, Morocco playmaker Younes Belhanda was on parade for them.

While Erol Bulut's side have moved to the 10th position in the Turkish top-flight log.

Nigeria's Okechukwu Azubuike also played a part for the Malatya Arena outfit, coming on for the remaining 10 minutes of the tie - for his 12th league appearance of the season.

In their next encounters, Kayserispor host Malatyaspor while Galatasaray would aim for a positive result when Göztepe come visiting the Türk Telekom Stadium; both ties billed for December 24.
