The American striker will be in good spirits after recently netting her 100th international goal but value could lie with Australia's star forward

The Women’s World Cup is set to see plenty of goals this summer and a familiar name leads the Golden Boot stakes.

USA’s Alex Morgan is William Hill’s 6/1 (7.0) favourite to scoop the award for the first time in her career and become just the second American to do after Michelle Akers, who netted 10 goals in the 1991 edition.

Morgan does not come into the tournament in the best of form, having failed to score for Orlando Pride this season in her four starts, although her impressive record of 101 international goals in 162 games will certainly give the 29-year-old heart.

Eugenie Le Sommer France

The hopes of host nation France will likely fall on the shoulders of Eugenie Le Sommer, who is a 7/1 (8.0) shot to win the Golden Boot in her third World Cup.

Le Sommer helped Lyon to a 13th consecutive Division 1 Feminine title - the ninth for the 30-year-old – with 13 goals and will look to add to the 58 career goals she has scored for France.

Next in the betting is Australia star Sam Kerr at 9/1 (10.0), who has been the top scorer in both of the last two NWSL seasons in the USA and tops the charts this season with six strikes in as many starts.

The Matildas will be looking to reach the semi-finals and so the 25-year-old should have plenty of opportunities to at least beat Lisa De Vanna's national record of four goals in a single World Cup.

De Vanna boasts seven goals across three tournaments, the most by any Australian, and Kerr will likely have to get somewhere near that mark if she is to claim the Golden Boot.

A host of other players can be found at 9/1 (10.0) including Carli Lloyd, who scored a famous hat-trick in USA’s 2015 World Cup final victory over Japan and finished runner up to Germany’s Celia Sasic in the top scorer race.

France’s Valarie Gauvin has 10 goals in just 18 games for her country and is available at the same price, along with Arsenal’s Dutch forward Vivianne Miedema - who scored two goals in the Euro 2017 final.

USA’s Megan Rapinoe can be backed at 10/1 (11.0) whilst William Hill go 11/1 (12.0) on England’s Ellen White, although the 16/1 (17.0) on Euro 2017 top scorer Jodie Taylor looks a better bet for the Three Lionesses.
