Premier League holders Manchester City begin the defence of their crown with a trip to the capital to face West Ham at the London Stadium in Saturday's early kick-off.

Pep Guardiola's side won this fixture 4-0 last season, although the Hammers ended the previous campaign in strong form at home with four wins in their last six games, so fans in east London will at least be hoping for a competitive showing from their side.

Latest odds

City are available at 2/9 (1.22) with bet365 to pick up their first three points of the season. The Citizens have won each of their last eight games against West Ham in all competitions.

Manuel Pellegrini's side are priced at 11/1 (12.00) for the win and the draw is offered at 11/2 (6.50). West Ham recorded two home wins against sides from the top six last season, beating Arsenal 1-0 and Manchester United 3-1.

Team news

Midfielder Mark Noble is a doubt with a thigh injury, while goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski - who played every league game last season - faces a late fitness test with a groin problem.

City have Benjamin Mendy unavailable, while fellow defender Aymeric Laporte is a doubt. Leroy Sane is definitely out after picking up an injury in the Community Shield.

Preview

Guardiola's men picked up 44 points on the road, exactly the same number as Liverpool, although City did score more goals and concede fewer than the Merseysiders.

West Ham kept just four clean sheets at home last term, letting in a total of 27 goals across their other 15 games.

Therefore there could be some interest in backing the visitors to win with a handicap, and realistically this seems the best angle from which to approach the game.

City won 10 away matches last season by at least a two-goal margin and investing in something similar happening this weekend should appeal.

Tips and predictions

The Premier League champions are offered at 4/6 (1.66) to win with a -1 handicap, but a shrewder angle could be investing in them to win with a -1.75 Asian handicap at 9/10 (1.90).

This selection gives us a half-win if City win by exactly two goals, with half of the initial stake returned, and pays out in full if they win by a bigger margin.

Odds correct at the time of writing. Please gamble responsibly.
