Ifeanyi Anaemena says his Enyimba side will do all to avoid defeat against Djoliba when they meet in a Caf Confederation Cup encounter at the Stade Modibo Keita on Sunday.
The People’s Elephants are sitting in the third position with six points and must fight to get a positive result or win if possible to keep alive their chances of progressing.
With a 2-0 win their first meeting at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar, the Nigerian side will be hoping to do a double over the Malians in front of their own fans in Bamako.
And the 26-year-old defender has admitted their recent poor showing but is assuring put up a better display worthy enough to earn a good result in Mali.
“There are no two ways about it; we must avoid defeat against Djoliba on Sunday or else, our chances of progressing further might be dimmed,” Anaemena told Caf website.
“We know they are a strong side and they need a win; but we have to motivate ourselves to be able to get a good result. A win is possible against Djoliba.
“It is true we have struggled in recent matches but that is all in the past; our focus now is the game on Sunday against Djoliba and we just have to do our best in Bamako before our last group game at home against CARA."
He further said that his side are extra motivated to earn an away against Djoliba by the prospect of playing for the first time in three years in front of their home fans against CARA in Aba.
“As you know we have not played in Aba in the last three seasons due to works at the stadium and everybody is happy it has now been completed. It was a great feeling for us to return home and train at the renovated stadium before leaving for the match against Djoliba,” he continued.
“The opportunity we had training in front of our fans in Aba before our departure was an extra motivation, and we know many of our fans will be at the stadium for our final group game against CARA particularly if we beat Djoliba in Bamako.”
