The UAE Arabian Gulf League title race has never been hotter. Al Ain moved to the top with 35 points after they thrashed Ajman 7-0, but the real entertainment came when Al Wahda played Al Wasl at the Zayed Sports City Stadium and won 4-3.

In a match that saw 4,250 fans attend, both sides were back on forth throughout most of the game despite Al Wahda going down to 10 men in the second half. The first half ended 3-2 for Al Wahda.

Al Wasl fell 4-2 against a side with a man down, but in the 92nd minute Fabio Lima scored a free kick to make it 4-3 and won a penalty in the dying seconds of the match to give Al Wasl a penalty.

Caio Canedo stepped up against the young Mohamed Alshamsi and his penalty was saved to give Al Wahda the valuable three points and move them into 2nd place with 33 points. Al Wasl moved down to 3rd place with 31 points.

Elsewhere in the league, Al Nasr with Ivan Jovanovic defeated Dibba 2-0 to move into 4th place. Al Jazira defeated Al Dhafra (see below: Al Dhafra’s world class own goal) 3-1 to move back into 5th place despite their poor season.

In what was a relief for the merged club, Shabab Al Ahli finally won for the first time in 10 games when they beat Emirates 2-0 and moved into 6th place. New signing Ante Erceg got onto the scoresheet with the second goal of the game.
