Konyaspor have part ways with African legend Samuel Eto’o seven months after the player arrived.

The four-time African Footballer of the Year joined the Turkish Super Lig side from rivals Antalyaspor in the January transfer window and went on to score six goals in 14 appearances.

“Our contract with Samuel Eto'o, our professional football player, has been concluded mutually endlessly on the basis of the negotiations we have had since,” read a statement on club website.

“Eto'o’s important contributions in every sense while wearing our team during training both in the name of our clubs in the training and has shown the maximum level of effort.

“We thank Samuel Eto'o for his contributions to the club and his services on behalf of our mosque, and we hope that he will bring beauty, happiness and success to his future life after a farewell to each other in warm and sincere feelings.”

Prior to the Eto’o’s arrival at the Konya Büyükşehir Stadium outfit, they were placed 17th in the Super Lig log with 16 points from 19 games, but helped them escape the drop as they finished the 2017-18 campaign placed 15th - a place above relegation.

With his best years evidently way behind him, Konyaspor was 37-year-old’s fifth club in as many years and the next move for the striker, scorer of 106 league goals during his trophy-laden five-year stint at Barcelona, is yet to be known.
