Match Preview

The last time the two nations met was in a friendly battle held in 2017 when Tanzania came from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw against Benin at Stade de l'Amitie in Cotonou.

The Squirrels had taken the lead through Stephane Sessegnon in the 30th minute but Taifa Stars levelled the scores for a draw courtesy of Elias Maguri in the 51st minute.

Another meeting between the two sides was also a build-up contest, in 2014 which saw Tanzania record a 4-1 win against The Squirrels at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

Benin started their campaign to reach Qatar with a 1-0 win against Madagscar before they were held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo.
