Sunderland Manager Jack Ross has thrown his weight behind Didier Ndong’s sacking for the sake of preserving the club’s culture.
The £13 million record signing failed to show up at the Stadium of Light for four months and on his return provided ’no reason’ for his absence and saw his contract terminated.
Despite being short of transfer fund, the boss is pleased with the decision by the board to avoid a repeat of such behaviour in their ranks.
“To try and develop a culture in your club, and I know culture is used as a kind of buzzword in football nowadays, but it's relative in all walks of life and it's not an easy thing to do. It can very easily be tipped the other way,” Ross told Sky Sports.
"I'm not saying that one individual player would do that, but equally I think we've done well to build the spirit in a short period of time. We don't want to come away from that."
Sunderland are third in the English League One log with 18 points from nine games and will be hoping to clinch the maximum points when they face Coventry City on Saturday.
