Matsatsantsa dispatched Magadascan side ASSM Elgeco Plus on Sunday to qualify for the next round of the 2017 Caf Confederaton Cup.
SuperSport have been on a sensational unbeaten run and despite a slip up against Free State Stars, where they played out to a goalless draw they are still amongst the chasing pack.
Baxter has, however, chosen to downplay SuperSport’s current log position as he believes for the time being it is more important that they do enough to keep within breathing distance of the title contenders.
“We’re in the middle of a busy period and the middle of the season. It’s far too early to be looking at the log standings. All I want to do at this stage is keep up with the leading pack,” Baxter told SunSport.
The Tshwane side’s focus now shifts on to Maritzburg United and coach Baxter predicts a difficult encounter at the Lucas Moripe stadium.
“I have been watching Maritzburg and I’m impressed. Also, Roger (De Sa) will want to make his mark, so this is not going to be an easy night for us,” Baxter said.
The 63-year-old was also wary of the unpredictability of the Pietermaritzburg side.
“I’ve watched them a few times and they are a decent side. Maritzburg, like most clubs in the league, have upped their game this season. But like us, they can be good one day and bad the next,” Baxter concluded.
