Domenico Tedesco shares his thoughts after the 23-year-old played his first league game since January 2017

Upon his return to action after 16 months, Ghana international Baba Rahman seemingly made an impression on club manager Domenico Tedesco.

The full-back was a 57th minute substitute at VELTINS-Areena as Schalke 04 handed Eintracht Frankfurt a 1-0 defeat on Bundesliga final matchday on Saturday.

The 23-year-old had been missing since picking up an injury while playing for Ghana at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

"I’m happy for the lads who came into the fray," Tedesco said, as reported by his club's official website.

"Alexander Nubel came on at half-time in an arena full of 60,000 fans and made a spectacular stop to deny Ante Rebic.

"Cedric Teuchert put in a great shift, we’re looking forward to seeing more of him in the future.

"Also I’m happy for Baba. He’s been out for a long time and came back like he’d never been out.

"First and foremost, I’m happy to have given something back to the people who love this club so much."

Originally scheduled to return to action after seven months, a series of complications kept Baba off the pitch until last January when he made a second half outing for Chelsea’s reserves against Queens Park Rangers.

His fitness issues delayed his second debut for Schalke since rejoining the club in an 18-month loan deal from the English giants in January.

Baba was on the books of the German outfit last season when he picked up the injury on international duty, effectively cutting short his first loan spell.

He made 13 league appearances, involving seven starts, before the incident.

The Tamale-born joined Chelsea in August 2015 but limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge warranted a loan move to Schalke a year later after playing 15 league games in his first season with the Blues.
