Ghana defender Samuel Sarfo 'Maldini' has revealed their intention to use the 2-0 defeat against Nigeria in the group stage of the 2017 Wafu Cup of Nations as a motivation when the two teams meet again in the final at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The Liberty Professionals skipper, who doubles as a policeman, has been an outstanding player in the competition, helping the hosts alongside Vincent Atingah to keep a clean sheet against Niger in the semifinal on Thursday.

“We can’t afford to lose to them for the second time. We lost in the final group game and this time it should be a revenge for us,” Sarfo told

“We know the fans were disappointed with that defeat but this time around we will do all we can to win the final.

“That is the only way we can make the people of Ghana happy and personally I am looking forward to a get game in the final,” he added.

The winner of the tournament will bag $100,000 and Goal understands that Ghana FA has promised to share the money between the players and technical team if they defeat Nigeria.
