Sackey suffers injury relapse in Alanyaspor stalemate

Ghana midfielder Isaac Sackey suffered a fresh knee injury on Friday when his Alanyaspor side shared the spoils 1-1 with Karabukspor in the Turkish Super Lig and may spend a couple of days on the sidelines.

If further tests reveal it to be serious he could be ruled out of the Black Stars' double header against Congo in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers early next month.

The 23-year-old lasted only 15 minutes in the game before he was replaced by Zambia international Chisamba Lungu.

Sackey, who made his national team bow in June when Ghana thrashed Ethiopia 5-0 in the 2019 Afcon qualifiers, was handed another opportunity after coach Kwesi Appiah named him in his latest 24-man squad to face Congo on September 1.

Elsewhere at the Turk Telekom Stadium in Istanbul, Ghana defender John Boye was an unused substitute when his Sivasspor side were hammered 3-0 by log leaders Galatasaray, thanks to a brace by Bafetimbi Gomis and another strike from Tolga Cigerci.

However, Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan will be in action on Saturday when  Kayserispor host Osmanlıspor while Joseph Attamah Laweh and his Istanbul Basaksehir side will play Konyaspor on Sunday.

Ghana is expected to begin a non-residential camping on Monday in Accra ahead of the game before they travel to Kumasi on Wednesday.
