Ruud Krol confirms approach over Bafana Bafana coaching job

Former Orlando Pirates coach Ruud Krol has disclosed that he has been approached for the South Africa coaching job.

The 67-year-old Dutch tactician was recently said to have agreed personal terms with the South African Football Association (Safa).

The organisation then moved swiftly to dismiss the reports, but Krol has now revealed that an unnamed Safa official contacted him over the Bafana job.

“I was on holiday in Italy. I informed him I was certainly interested and we left it at that," Krol told Mail & Guardian.

"He said he would call me back to finalise mundane issues like the terms of a contract and working conditions," he said.

The former Egypt and Tunisia coach feels that he is ready to guide Bafana, who are campaigning in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

“There is a lot that I can bring to the table ... If we can work very hard together, we can achieve success," Krol added.

"There are no shortcuts in attaining success in football. Hard work, discipline and more hard work bring success," Krol concluded.

Safa are expected to announce a new Bafana coach ahead of the team's international friendly games against Guinea Bissau and Angola.
