A tricky test awaits Real Madrid as they get ready to make the trip to Villarreal for their third La Liga clash of the season on Monday (5am AEST).

Recent history suggests that Zinedine Zidane’s men will not have it easy against The Yellow Submarine but Real still remain the favourites with Sportsbet to claim a win ($1.72) compared to their hosts ($4) with a draw ($4) a likely possibility as well.

Real Madrid’s start to the latest La Liga campaign has been a mixed one with the Los Blancos running out 3-1 victors over Celta Vigo before they were held to a 1-1 draw by Real Valladolid.

French ace Karim Benzema has got on the score sheet in both games for Real Madrid so far and the striker is heavily favoured ($1.72) to do so again against a Villarreal defence which has conceded six goals in two matches.

Gareth Bale seems to be back in Zidane’s plans following more summer drama and the Welsh winger will want to make a big statement with a goal ($2.20).

The five most recent La Liga encounters between these two sides has seen Real Madrid win and draw twice, while also suffer one defeat. Villarreal have managed to score at least two goals in four of those clashes with last season’s match at the Estadio de la Ceramica ending in a 2-2 draw.

A repeat of that result is not out of the question with the same scoreline fetching handsome returns ($10). Goals have flowed freely in recent encounters between these two sides and the same can be expected on Monday.

A Real Madrid win with both sides getting on the scoresheet is a likely outcome ($2.70) while a Villareal victory with goals from both teams is also an enticing shout ($5.50) along with a goal-scoring draw ($4.50).

Villarreal’s start to the season has been a poor one - held to 4-4 draw at home by Granada before going down 2-1 at Levante and the odds are clearly stacked against Javier Calleja’s men turning that form around anytime soon.
