Pep Guardiola's side broke through the 100-goal barrier en route to the title last season but can they break their own record this time around?

One of the records that Manchester City broke during their run to the Premier League title last season was the number of goals scored in a 38-game season.

Chelsea's 2009-10 side set the bar at 103 but Pep Guardiola's men racked up 106 strikes en route to what was the most dominant domestic campaign in recent memory. The question now, is can City score even more goals this time around?

Having already struck eight times - six of those against Huddersfield Town - bet365 are now 5/1 (6.0) that the Citizens go at least one better than the 106-goal milestone.

Such a feat would require Guardiola's side to average 2.815 goals per game across the season and while that is a high benchmark, Sunday's demolition of the Terriers demonstrated just how many attacking options the Spaniard can call upon.

Kevin De Bruyne's injury is a blow to City's chances of achieving this particular landmark but the squad depth at the Etihad is extremely impressive.
The Belgium playmaker provided 16 assists in the Premier League last season and while his creative influence will be a difficult one to replicate, the fixture list suggests there could be several more big score lines on the horizon while De Bruyne remains side-lined.

City's next five games see them face Wolves, Newcastle, Fulham, Cardiff and Brighton ahead of trips to Liverpool and Tottenham plus a clash with Burnley before the end of October.

Guardiola's footballing ethos means his side are encouraged to continue firing in the final third, even when it's evident that three points are secured and it's that ruthless streak that makes this kind of bet appealing.

Last term it took three games for the holders to really get into their stride, their fourth outing of the campaign resulted in a 5-0 thrashing of Liverpool. Given how quickly the squad appear to have gotten up to speed this year though, clashes with the aforementioned six sides could yield plenty of goals.

In the months of September and October 2017 City played seven top flight matches, scoring 30 times and only failing to hit three goals on one occasion - a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

It would be no surprise to see a similar tally this time around and securing such results would be important for those considering backing the 5/1 (6.0) about another record breaking year in front of goal.

The defending champions are just 8/15 (1.53) to retain their title ahead of Liverpool (3/1), Chelsea (12/1), Tottenham (14/1) and Manchester United (25/1).
