The People’s Elephant gaffer has showered encomiums on his players who fought harder to secure a hard-earned home win against Tornadoes

Enyimba head coach, Paul Aigbogun has hailed the resolve of his players who fought to secure a late winner against Niger Tornadoes in a rescheduled league tie on Wednesday in Calabar.

Emeka Obioma rose highest to nod home the winning goal in the injury time of the fixture and Aigbogun who just engineered the Flying Eagles ticket to the next round of the U20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers revealed that the People’s Elephant knew it was all points or nothing.

“It was another tough match for us because we were up against a team that wanted to make an impact against us but we are grateful that we got the three points,” Aigbogun told Goal.

“The players gave everything they had and we were rewarded with a late goal. I knew we would get a victory because we played very well and created the chances but we were unable to get the goals that will do justice to the fixture.

“Tornadoes came with the intention of getting another favourable result after the one they got against FC IFeanyiUbah but we were determined to get seal the maximum points and our hard work paid off at the end of the game. I must give credit to the boys for not giving up even when many thought it would end in another draw.”

Aigbogun tasked his players to approach their remaining league matches the same way but he warned them that they cannot continue to get away with their inability to convert numerous chances they are creating in matches that have been played this season.

“I agree that we have to do more in our attack with the many chances that we are unable to utilize in most of the matches we have played this season but we are doing something to ensure that there is an improvement,” he added.

“We are hoping to work on the strikers a little more in training than we have been doing to ensure that our attackers are more potent than they have been at present. We are happy with the win and we are going to going pushing for the league title.”

The seven times league champions have moved to seventh in the league table with 31 points from 19 matches and they still have three matches at hand.
